Hi all,
my panda has an annoying rattle, when the car is in low revs, or as you slow, or when you part depress the clutch. I think I've narrowed it down to the drivesahft between the front and rear axles. This is backed up by the amount of play it has. Has any other 4x4 owner had this problem before? If so did you, and how did you fix it?
Cheers
Ben

Hi, Yes ! I think ALL 4x4 owners have had this problem by now (n)

It's caused by the u/j on the propshaft wearing. I've never had one repaired as I can put up with the noise, as most owners do.

If you want to replace it: I checked last year and the bearing was £98 + vat and could only be fitted by a specialist garage with a propshaft compressing rig ... whatever

It all depends upon how rich or tolerent you are................

Why would a propshaft need compressing? Anyway, thanks for advice, I'm going to have a look at it as soon as my sun burn calms down enough to start crawling under the car.

According to Porter there are a lot of joints in the 4x4 prop shaft.
The universal joints on the back section are shown as ordinary things held together with circlips - a DIY job.

But the front c.v. joint would seem to need a press "the length of the front section of the propellor shaft".

Depends where your noise is..

Hi John,
you couldn't post a picture from your parts cd could you. Cheeky I know but I've lost mine. Hopefully it's the back ones which are loose. Can't wait to get home and get under and have a look.
Cheers
