Hi
My daughter's Marbella has a problem with hot starting, in that it wont! She gets to the shops and then it wont start when she gets back in it. Usually starts after about half an hour when its cooled down and the ice cream's melted!.Spark's good and fuels getting through after replacing a split hose that was sucking in air, but still this prob.

Its low miles (40K) and the engine really pulls well for such a little squirt, but its driving her mad. Am going to do the usual renewals (plugs, points, condenser and coil) She may be flooding it but as its essentially a prehistoric Panda is there anything I should be checking specific to this model? I have to add that when I was young and could still see my willie while standing straight I had many rwd pushrod fords et.c so am fairly comfortable with this type of engine.
Thanks

I don't know this engine specifically - if it was a later Panda with that stupid ignition module (silver box on the carb) that would be my first port of call.

On the older Fiat engines (which this is effectively), they can suffer from heat soak after a long (esp motorway) journey. Assuming it's not the fuel delivery suffering, it can be a weak starter motor. Does it sound sluggish turning over, as that's the starter? I have a 127 that does that and feels like it won't restart from a petrol station after a motorway run - keeping it turning over eventually starts it, but you wouldn't bet much on it - that's definitely a weak starter (but it's 35 years old and I can't be bothered to change it at present!).

Hi guys. thanks for the response. The starter really belts it over which is why its so frustrating it wont catch. Its a manual choke and seems to operate OK tho I haven't checked on the butterfly is closing and opening yet. It has the conventional plugs/ points/coil set which is why this is so surprising as it is so simple.

After the split fuel pipe I wondered if there was a vapour lock problem but this happens if she's just gone to Tesco's two miles away, so its not as if its getting really hot and to be honest, I don't fancy disconnecting from the pump and seeing if the juice is flowing 6 " from a hot engine!

Onwards and upwards! I'll do all the usual but would be grateful for any input no matter how obscure.
Cheers

Hmm, was going to warm it up and then try a couple of choke settings when I get it round the house to replace the consumables to see if it is flooding. Always try the simple things first but it never happens when I'm around! Thanks for the nod.

If the engine is warm it shouldn't require any choke
