Eurotunnel Price :- £47 Each Way per car (based on 3-5 days before returning - price correct November 2013)
Channel Ferry:- DFDS Seaways £35 Each Way per car (based on 7 days before returning - price correct June 2014)

I used the Eurotunnel last year for a pre-Christmas trip to Bruges - it's a brilliant service and remember that if you exchange Tesco Clubcard points they are worth 3 x their value against Eurotunnel bookings - ie a £10.00 Clubcard voucher buys you a £30.00 Eurotunnel voucher. I did it return for £25.00 worth of Tesco points........(y)

I've never Managed to get prices below £100+ return for the tunnel. Prefer ferry myself having used both, cheaper also :D

Re clubcard points, can also use the for RAC membership, might be worthy for international recovery. Some very good deals for RAC cover with Tesco points.

I'm looking forward to this :)

We've done a similar trip a couple of times in our CLX and absolutely loved it! There are some great mountain roads south of Bologna and Forli.

There's also a route down through Luxembourg which avoids most of the tolls and is more direct (but does need the vignette for Switzerland).

There's also a great route back slightly further East which takes you via Venice (not so good for driving round but worth seeing!) and Slovenia (Ljubljana - fantastic place) then into Austria.

Exciting stuff!

Thanks guys this is very useful information, it seems you are all very well travelled! I have much to research it appears :)

So I think we need a list of places in particular that people who are coming would like to visit so an official route can be put together, the way there and the way back don't have to be the same but if I can get a general idea I can look into accommodation and milage/fuel costs.

So...

Include me & my place(s) of interest...

Sounds great Jacob we must check out the real food places for sure
rele I think many people will be keeping track of the thread for now as it's planned for over a year away. I've started making the plans, got a folder and everything :D so keep checking back on the details and we'll see you there :)

Me also interested

La Spezia and surrounding area is nice and there is a good campsite I know there as well. Also a great pizzeria which was fantastic value and really friendly. They had an A-Z of pizzas menu! Too much choice really, took me ages to decide haha!

Good to meet you today Andy. - I popped the question over dinner and my two girls are up for this.
So, please count the Snatch Panda in..

However I may need to mount three spot lamps up front and randomly utter classic lines from the greatest British film of all time.

(Just wanted to warn you now in case that's a deal breaker.)

Ciao.

Excellent news. I hope they like spaghetti.

I must broach the subject at home too!

This sounds like a great idea. I recently went up to Tongue (northcoast of scotland) in my Select and back again in 36 hours, approx 900-1k miles. Never missed a beat. I will also have a spare seat or 2 if needed.

This link mentions the location where the closing, cliff hanger, scene was filmed. - Photo opportunity maybe?

We wouldn't want to upset Aunty Nelly by not bringing back the goods. So I'm thinking quartz iodine lamps and rear suspension that will 'take the weight'..

Quality - my favourite film of all time. Also has anyone else ever noticed that in the scene where they're prepping the cars they appear to have the back end of one of the minis in the air to 'change the diff'
