Well, after 4 years of Panda's being a weekend car rather than my daily runner, for now Vicky is going to be my daily driver :slayer:

The Bravo's auto gearbox has decided to throw up some fault needing specialist attention, so while she's in for repair its Vicky to the rescue :D

So first apparent issue, not sure if its linked to the over spilling posted here (https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-classic/329984-filling-problems.html) but although there are no apparent leaks there is a strong smell of petrol at times.Although it is the hottest day of the year and windows are all down etc, so not sure if this has something to do with it?

I have that issue on warm days, never for very long though, I reckon its fuel vapour in the heat, but that is a guess

Congrats on using your panda as a daily driver, mine is too and it gets smoother to drive every day :)

Mine stank of petrol when I got to work today... As a smell it's underrated.

It's like fresh cow manure. Work on a dairy farm, long enough, and you'll begin to love -- and then, strangely, miss -- it.... Ah, the memories....

I wouldn't recommend dabbing either behind your ears, though.... ;)

Ah yes, the joys of living on a farm, I remember having to drive though the sludge from the rotting potatoes in the store next to the farm house I once lived in, had to go through it several times a day, no matter how slow you went, the wheel arches would get covered, and the smell was something else, very few cars parked next to the Sisley 4x4 while its unders were covered in that! :p

 I read that as "udders" and was thinking you meant the mudflaps before I realised I wasn't seeing straight

I've had a very long hot day in the office in my defence (6am start - cue violins!) and have wisely (it seems) stopped now.

Tell me about it, haven't even got twin sunnies, let alone and opening rear windows :bang: :p

I've found that, if you keep your speed up, open front windows, air vents, and put the fan on two -- but with my hearing aids out... -- it's cooler than the Punto...! :D

All the sunroofs would do is bake your head, anyway...! :p

I'm using an 87 4x4 for daily transport. Don't miss anything my 156 sportwagon could offer except that 5pot engine note and useful oomph. The old heap does pretty well though !

Whenever I'm the solo driver it's Fizzle all the way for me (y)

Poor mk3 only gets to the shops and back and the odd appointment with mum, its longest journeys have been picking up the roof bars and boot tray!

Fizzle just makes me feel something inside when I drive him that Twizzle doesn't

With your rear windows open (or in my case rear roof) exhaust gets sucked back into the cabin between 44 and 48mph. The first time I noticed it I pulled over because I thought the engine was on fire.

Petrol vapor as you set off is caused by residue fuel in the carb' evaporating while the car is at rest. Making a pocket of fuel vapor under the bonnet that slowly seeps into the air vents. Also the petrol vapor being forced back to the bulkhead by air flowing through the grille and radiator can escape along the top and side of the bonnet and get in the cabin via open front windows or front roof.

Nothing to worry about at all. :)

The best thing about using a Panda as a daily drive is familiarity with the local road and go-kart handling. Little boy and girl racers can easily catch me when I'm doing the speed limit through a village but as soon as we're clear and on a national speed limit section they have no chance. ;)

I hadn't really noticed this thread until now,
As you all probably know Charmanda is my daily driver, quite literally my only car and is driven everyday I go anywhere. Never have any problems with the car being in daily use, quite the joy to drive all be it a little slow up hills (I can see an engine swap happening after Uni....)

Petrol smell? Yes every time I pull away from being at a standstill for more than 30 seconds, I've never been worried about it, being a carby engine petrol fumes can just leak out easier than injection
