Hi all,

I am welding in some patches to fix holes in the boot, I am a ok welder so on that side I will be fine. But do I need to do anything other than disconnect the battery to stop the loom from being ruined? Do I need to worry about any fuel lines in the near side area? General advice please?

Thanks
J

Aslong as you are not over the top of the tank you should be fine, I'm guessing it is the rear seam where the inner arch, boot floor and chassis rail meet? Only need to worry about the wiring if the rear panel under the tailgate seal needs repairing.

Yea you got it, right where they all meet. Its lucky I got it before its all rusted away! I think I might take the loom off the lights.

Thanks for the help guys!

With the wiring that is on the N/S too as dragonwagon said, I never had a problem with the wiring or washer pipe when I repaired the rear seams on my Sisley, it is nowhere near.

Nope, on RHD mk2s wiring runs from fuse board up the OS (drivers), splits slightly at B pillar for fuel tank and then continues to rear OS light, along rear panel as you say to rear NS light.

Washer pipe however runs from reservoir located on the NS, and up the NS taking the same route the wiring from the fuse board to rear lighting on the OS does. None return valve for rear wash supply pipe is located within NS rear 1/4 panel accessible by removing the rear trim / panel card.

As long as OP checks this out before welding I'm sure they'll be fine.
dragonwagon what wiring runs up the NS?

Perhaps you would like to check which side is the nearside - from my admittedly fading memory it always was the left hand side of the car as I said.
On both my 87 4x4 and 93 Selecta the wiring runs on the left strangely.

Left / right / right / left, all depends where you're looking at the car from.

Off Side and Near Side are used to clarify a side which is being discussed, off side being the drivers and Near Side being the Passengers, assuming the car is being driven in the market it was designed and sold for.

So I ask the question again. Was it the Drivers Side (N/S) or Passenger Side (O/S).

Spot on in the middle Jon (near side is always the side nearest the curb), but you confused yourself at the end - heat stroke? That's what I've got despite staying in :spin:

Yes, heat stroke indeed, I blame it on the 6 hour drive I'd completed yesterday from Preston back home (even if it was in an airconditioned Fiat)
