General 4x4 fuel tank

Searched and followed the links without success.

Does anyone have a current source for a tank to suit an 88 Sisley.. please?

Or has anyone tried the plastic boat alternative?

Hi Andy,

Don't think so, we've been looking out for a source for a couple of years.

There are plenty for the injected 4x4 usually in Germany, but not the ones we all have!

There's a small but definite pent up demand if you find a supplier.

If money is no object Fiat may still do them. When I replaced mine 5 or 6 years ago before all the after market ones dried up I enquired with the dealer and they were available for well over £200.

how bad is the original tank? if you can weld, i am sure it can be fixed.
i fixed mine, welded the holes up and filled it with fuel tank sealant.

Never weld a fuel tank unless it has been flushed and preferably is still full of water

yeah i have done that once. thankfully i was in full welding gear with a full faced mask and thick leather welders clothing + gloves.
the tank had loads of holes in it so the pressure could escape easy.

i am currently writing a "how to" on fuel tank repair. check it out in a few mins..

More exactly you will miss half your face if it goes up.
But look on the bright side; it isn't usually a big enough bang to actually kill you so you get to live with the pain........... And it is the sort of thing that you'd only do once.

That is for an injection model, no good for a carb'd one, if the tank just has a few pinholes then the tank sealant stuff should do the job

It says compatible with 87/88 4x4s so assumed it was suitable for carbed too.

on some markets there were spi cat. pandas 4x4 in 1987.

I've decided to use this as my opportunity to try one of the liquid tank sealant kits.
'Slosh' sounds attractive.
Anyone got experience of that one or any of the others?

it works a treat.. i used it to "paint" the inside of the tank on my sisley.. stop it from rusting again.

its nice and easy to do.. just make sure you clean the threads the nuts have to travel on to take the tank off. if you do not wire brush them, you run the risk of shearing the studs off!

I managed to get a new tank for my '87 4x4 from SAS, a leading parts dealership, it's not a genuine one but fits perfect. It was £63 - my original one split down the seams. Have you checked with any part suppliers like Euro Car Parts etc.?
