Panda (Classic) My Purple Panda Parade Progress log

Introduction

Well folks, after keeping it under my hat all week (to avoid any embarrassment if the ebay winner actually collected the car) I have bought the purple panda parade from another user on here, neeny. They had sold it on ebay, and to cut a long story short the winner of the auction didn't collect, so the transaction was cancelled, and I offered to buy it in his place (I had actually nearly bid on the car on the original run but I confused myself and thought it was LHD which wouldn't have been any good to me) So I made the trip to fife (and on the way crossed the forth road bridge and saw the forth rail bridge which is a bit of an ambition of mine) and collected it. It took some getting used to driving! My current daily is a Citroen C2 GT, and the two cars are very very different. I have prior experience driving Fiats, as my first 3 cars were a mix of mk1 and mk2a puntos, and the first car I ever drove was my dad's tipo.

Anyway I digress, I drove it home in blizzard conditions and am very impressed with it! The only thing is that it has sat for a while and the brakes are very spongy (not a criticism of the previous owners, they were extremely honest about the car and answered all my questions, they were very kind and nice people and I hope to see them again, perhaps at a show) The Mohair twin sunroofs were slightly damp on the inside (again, not a criticism, it has been extremely wet in Scotland recently, and there is only so much it can take) not leaking or anything, just slightly damp, so I aim to treat this with fabric water repellant. There are some decals and stickers on it which aren't to my personal tastes, so I will remove these, and keep the ones which are to my taste :) The rear sunroof needs a new strap, so I will need to source one of these, or get my fiance to make a new one if I can get a hold of some leather or rubber if I find they are unavailable :)

I am very pleased with my new purchase, and consider myself very lucky to have managed to get it, the buyer on ebay should be kicking himself! And also I am very lucky to have met such kind people as Janine and Stewart, and to have found a forum with such helpful people. Anyway folks lets get down to business...photos! I apologize for the poor quality of some of these photos, it was dark before I took some of these and it is very cold so my hand was shaking. Hopefully you join me on my journey folks :) The panda is currently in my garage being aired out in an attempt to part dry the sunroofs before I bust out the hairdryer tomorrow :)

P.S. How are are you loading your pictures? They're really slowing my laptop down. :(

I love a happy ending..

The inside of the sunroof can get damp, but never dripped water. I used merguires spray, but you could use stuff for waterproofing tents I guess.. Nixwax products may work...just be sure it doesn't affect the colour.

It's a great car...but then I would say that. Put it this way, when we had a cull and sold most of our pandas this was the only one that the wife shed a tear over. It was the first panda that got me back into owning these fantastic little cars...(y)

Glad you got it home safely.
It's been a good little car for us in the time we had it. You wouldn't have noticed, but it was watched closely by Abbie as it disappeared up the hill. ;)
I second Kev about the roofs though, they get a little damp but never drip.
Glad it stayed on the forum too, I'd hate to not know it was being looked after. (y)

I never have a problem Vern? Have you cleared your search history? The pic upload site I use resizes them to make it a little easier to load too? Thanks for the comments and help :)

Well done and congrats (y)

I feel there maybe alot of "I didn't do that" and "it was alright when I had it" from Mr Panda Face though :p

clack clack lol :)

Thanks clackasaurus-rex :) (another suggestion for you're new name)

Really please Purple Haze has stayed within the forum.

Unfortunetly for my own use I will have to rename it as I always name my cars after the last 3 letters of the numberplate, here are my examples:
ELS- Elsie
MCS- McStewart
TMZ-Tamzin
EZA- Eliza
WJF- Wee Jeff
PTP- To be announced

Im sure many people will still call it purple haze though, and I don't mind that, it has forum history :)

Thanks Kev for the kind words, I will be going down that line of waterproofing spray type stuff I reckon :)

Glad you got it home safely.

Thanks again guys, I felt like the big bad wolf though :( but Im sure the maria and 126 will take her mind off it :)

Well done for getting your first panda and one with such rich forum history(y)

Was that a micra you were driving in the first photos?

No that was my father in law driving my Fiance's Daihatsu Cuore, we like rare cars in this (now three car) family ;)

Thanks everyone for your lovely messages, this has been a great day for me, I have realised a dream of mine here, and I thank everyone here for helping me out with it, both before I bought it, today, and in the future :)

Damn! could have sworn that door mirror was a micra one :bang:
Will hang my head in shame...

Well, I really do need to pull my finger out, first CLS started hanging around and bought himself a Panda not long after and now onemanmade has sorted himself a Panda. I've been hanging round these parts for the best part of 9 months and am only just sorting out a Panda....

It looks lovely and I hope you enjoy it onemanmade (y)

Thanks didge :) I can't wait to see your panda when you get it

Ok, so my dad came over today and had a look at it for me, (or for his own curiosity, I couldn't stop him if I tried :ROFLMAO:) he is a fiat man as I think I previously said, he is impressed with it :) and he is a hard man to impress. We did a list of jobs which need doing which are as follows:

Rear wheel cylinders need replaced
front brake pads (discs are fine)
new brake fluid (not sure on type, though probs dot 4? I will check this)
Cam Belt Cover
Air filter
New manifold hose 3 1/2 cm diameter
rear wiper
Oil filter and Oil change
Rear Indicator bulb
Underseal the car
new spark plugs

Obviously some of these are more urgent than others, and it is in very good condition generally :) I seem to be onto an absolute winner here :) and some of those are just for my own normal procedure when buying a car, I always give it a right good service, but I am very impressed with it :) I LOVE IT SO MUCH :)
