Panda (Classic) My Purple Panda Parade Progress log

Introduction

Well folks, after keeping it under my hat all week (to avoid any embarrassment if the ebay winner actually collected the car) I have bought the purple panda parade from another user on here, neeny. They had sold it on ebay, and to cut a long story short the winner of the auction didn't collect, so the transaction was cancelled, and I offered to buy it in his place (I had actually nearly bid on the car on the original run but I confused myself and thought it was LHD which wouldn't have been any good to me) So I made the trip to fife (and on the way crossed the forth road bridge and saw the forth rail bridge which is a bit of an ambition of mine) and collected it. It took some getting used to driving! My current daily is a Citroen C2 GT, and the two cars are very very different. I have prior experience driving Fiats, as my first 3 cars were a mix of mk1 and mk2a puntos, and the first car I ever drove was my dad's tipo.

Anyway I digress, I drove it home in blizzard conditions and am very impressed with it! The only thing is that it has sat for a while and the brakes are very spongy (not a criticism of the previous owners, they were extremely honest about the car and answered all my questions, they were very kind and nice people and I hope to see them again, perhaps at a show) The Mohair twin sunroofs were slightly damp on the inside (again, not a criticism, it has been extremely wet in Scotland recently, and there is only so much it can take) not leaking or anything, just slightly damp, so I aim to treat this with fabric water repellant. There are some decals and stickers on it which aren't to my personal tastes, so I will remove these, and keep the ones which are to my taste :) The rear sunroof needs a new strap, so I will need to source one of these, or get my fiance to make a new one if I can get a hold of some leather or rubber if I find they are unavailable :)

I am very pleased with my new purchase, and consider myself very lucky to have managed to get it, the buyer on ebay should be kicking himself! And also I am very lucky to have met such kind people as Janine and Stewart, and to have found a forum with such helpful people. Anyway folks lets get down to business...photos! I apologize for the poor quality of some of these photos, it was dark before I took some of these and it is very cold so my hand was shaking. Hopefully you join me on my journey folks :) The panda is currently in my garage being aired out in an attempt to part dry the sunroofs before I bust out the hairdryer tomorrow :)

Re: Re: My Purple Panda Parade Progress log

Cleaning under the bonnet stuff, what the clack?

You're one of those people who leaves the bonnet open at meets aren't you. :p

I reckon by keeping the airbox clean then I will maximise the life of the air filter, and the quality of air going in will be better, and performance will be at its best (if done in conjunction with the rest of the servicing I will do) and for the purpose of making it look nice clacketty clack :) im sure it won't make a massive difference, but its a nice easy wee job for a quiet evening in the house :)

And yeah at meets I do tend to get my bonnet open :ROFLMAO: ;)

You coming to Panda camp? Just you wait until we show you how well FIRE engines cook fry ups!

I've seen the thread and I would love to come! the panda (I still haven't named him for my own naming procedure as explained earlier in the thread) isn't quite ready yet though, if I don't make this year I will definitely make next year, it looks like fun!

Next year! Oh don't tell me we've got to do it all again next year. :p

It does look fun though I saw the panda camp 2009 video on YouTube, it was wierd to see my car (that I didn't own yet) on it :)

Did it have a cambelt cover in the video??

Im sure i have the blue rear part of the airbox somewhere.....I think the reason I didn't fit was the flap didn't work...or maybe it didn't fit right???

Panda camps like the Olympics ....... See you in four years time....hopefully you will still have the car.

No idea clacker jack :)

I quite like the look of the front being blue and the injector housing being black anyways :) Im sure there must have been a reason you didnt fit the blue one though, you seem pretty fastidious :)

I hope so :) If I do everything I want to do now, and upkeep it well then I cant see four years time being an issue :) It has obviously been kept very nicely in the past ;) :slayer:

He was a car we used regulary and it's good to see you putting all the work in to keep him going strong..(y)

When we sold the car to venters and neeny we were very happy that he had gone to a good home....now the car is with you, we are again relived that he is being looked after and will go on for years to come..:slayer:

Thanks for the kinds words, I appreciate that. As I have said before Venters and Neeny were very nice to me and my fiance, they were extremely honest about the car and obviously loved it a lot. I can tell from the condition, having gone over it with a fine tooth comb, that it has been well looked after, I had expected a bit more work to be honest! Over the next months and years I will be doing a lot of work to it, I think I mentioned in an earlier post that most of this will not be immediately necessary as such, but I think that taking the time and care to properly maintain a vehicle will maintain and hopefully improve its performance, and prolong its life and performance for many years to come :) also I am very keen to learn more than I already know about cars, and have a haynes manual at the ready! Hopefully everyone will be as kind, helpful and fun with me as they already are and join me on my journey, I hope to meet you all at meets too!

Got some goodies in the post today, an air filter and front brake pads! :) (By the way, if you havent guessed by now, I like to photograph and document everything I do when I am working on a car) I am looking forward to getting these on!

A handy wee tip here (I was caught out by an ebay seller who listed brake pads for my c2 but they actually fitted another model of c2) When you look at your (used) brake pads before ordering, take a tracing of the shape of it, and compare to photographs from the ebay seller (if they have any) and then when they come in, lay the new brake pad over the tracing to check they are the same, saves time if you have to send them back, rather than getting the wheel off the car and everything stripped down only to find out they are the wrong brake pads!

Thanks, I might just do that! Some of the photos in the haynes manual arent very clear :/

I did this drawing today to show some of my plans for the exterior of the car, basically concerning the removal of decals and window tints. I apologise for the crudity of these drawings and my terrible handwriting, but you get the idea.

As you've made a donation to Pinky you can PM me your address and get a 'Pinky Panda sticker' :). What are the chances of it getting on the car though :(

Ive pm'ed you :)

Mine is a '94 "M" reg. This manual would cover that presumably?

I would think so, the book covers to L reg which ran to july 1994, M reg is july 1994 to july 1995 so I cant see there having been any major changes to the design in that time? Of course I may be wrong, but I cant see it.

Re: Re: My Purple Panda Parade Progress log

I had the 20p lol money via Paypal - thanks Cameron by the way. We had a minimum for stickers though I think? I haven't updated the book but I don't think there was anything else due in. I could be confused though - it happens a lot!!

If there is a minimum donation amount don't worry about it. I don't want to tread on anyones toes or anything :) im sure in a while I will be on my way to the donation amount anyways :) no worries fellas :)
