I bought a nice little '92 CLX last year, white twin sunroof earlier this year. I rebuilt the gearbox and have re-done the interior replaced the bagges etc.

But.. it just failed the MOT and needs some welding to the sills just behind the suspension mounts and the handbrake it not working well.

Cost to repair around £450 garage says its not worth it. Maybe someone wants a little project? Old thread with some pics...

buy a baby mig welder, spend a night reading guides on the net looking at youtube vids, spend half a day practicing on an old panel. then weld it your self

OR

Find nearest Fiat Forum member with welding skills

Bribe/cajole/threaten to scrap car [or just ask nicely]

Get car sorted properly but cheaply with their help

Enjoy the satisfaction of driving past garage who tried to gouge you ;)

Thanks for all the replies the £450 includes rebuilding the back brakes worst case senario and actually I believe they are a straight up garage.

To get access to weld is the tricky part, I could weld myself (possibly) but its the access. I'm sure for that reason they'd rather not do it. Think I will bite the bullet and get it done....

Wasn't a Halfrauds M.O.T centre by any chance? The one in my home town is being investigated by Trading Standards due to the number of complaints.

There isn't a single job on the Fiat Panda that can not be done at home.

Oh and while you've got the rear suspension off to get to the rusty bits; give it a once over with a wire brush, coat of hammerite and new bushes while you're at it, then plaster the underside with waxoil prior to reassembly. so you don't have to do the same job in a couple of years time. :)
