Re: Pinky The Panda Fundraising Thread

Is anyone able to bring Pinky down to the Castle Combe show this weekend?

Short notice I know, but it would be a great opportunity to take him round the track and get some promotional shots. Gavin still has one ticket left so entry would be free.

well i been in pinky now, and that has not helped cure my desire for a panda at all, infact it has made it much worse lol.. It really needs its brakes sorting out though, Frazer seems to think its ok but IMO its a bit dangerous.

Having also driven Pinky, I'm afraid that I don't think the brakes are that much worse than on Pippin... -- and they're new; and sailed through the MOT...! (I also had to do an emergency stop, in Pippin, on the way back from Castle Combe, at the weekend... -- and you'd be amazed just how effective the brakes are, when needed....)

Seriously, you get used to them pretty quick: so much so that I have to remind myself that the Punto doesn't need half as much (pedal) travel or grunt to stop....

Re: Pinky The Panda Fundraising Thread

seriously? it hardly even slows at all with all the might i could muster with one foot, its not much slower to not brake at all and let it coast to a stop. Now i know older cars don't have over servo'd brakes, i've had a few classic cars in my time and beetles for example (that weigh about 20 million times more than a panda, which have drums all round) brake like a ferrari compared to pinky when it comes to braking - even one i had that only had one working drum stopped much better. I just cannot believe that if pandas slowed down that leisurely that any of them would have survived this long.

also having bled fizz's brakes i cannot see any reason at all that a panda wouldn't stop just as well as a cinq does

There were no oh-sh*t moments to be had, at all. Perhaps the brakes have got worse since I drove him...? (Dare I ask how the front pads are doing...?) He has done a few miles, since then....

PS: I know what you mean about Beetles: having owned a couple, thirty years or so ago. I doubt if I would have the strength, now, though, to drive my 1967 1500... -- sometimes it felt as if you needed both feet...!

well they don't feel spongy or make any noise like the pads are worn, they just don't have any stopping power at all. @CLS how does Pinky brake compared to Fizz??

Honestly I felt exactly the same as you when I first drove a non servo'd Panda, first I drove Chario then Pinky, they do stop but not like Fizzle!
There's no initial 'jerk' when brakes are applied in them so you do question if they are working. When I forgot to double the braking distance I ended up with a sphincter tightening moment, you don't forget twice though!

It took a while to adjust to Fizzles after years of new cars but they aren't bad in comparison to the mk3 at all.

The selecta had the best brakes of any panda I'd ever driven and seemed too keen for a Panda, after a few attempted windscreen headbutts I adjusted to that too

Re: Pinky The Panda Fundraising Thread

perhaps i am just just too much of a scare-di-cat but seems to me if a kid jumped out in the road or something in pinky you just simply could not stop, no chance. it just seems so impossible to me that they could be so bad compared to my old k-reg beetle bearing in mind that was the old style k-reg and this is the new style lol. it should by all rights, servo or not, stop better than than a heavier, over 20 year older car!
