A little fault has developed on the selecta. always been there, but getting a little worse now..
When I raise the drivers window, it does not close all the way and I am left with a couple of mm gap at the top. The handle keeps going around with a ratcheting sound, but it stops raising the window.
Ok, probably a stupid question, but what is the cause of that? :eek:

stupid question no.2 :p
I had a go at removing the door card (small type) to have a look at what is going on. Obviously I managed to get all the push fittings off. Now, how the hell do i remove the handle itself? I see 3 6mm bolts around the handle behind the door card (awkward), is that it?

I am normally a lot more adventurous, but this is the missus car.. if I bugger something up, I'm in trouble :D

The handle is held on by a spring clip. If you push the door panel in around the winder spindle along with the plastic ring you should just be able to see it. It's a sort of C shape and it needs to be pushed out sideways with something like a flat blade screwdriver.

When re fitting you can fit the clip onto the handle and then push the handle back onto the splines.

:yeahthat:

Watch the horseshoe clip as you take it out - ping - can fly long distances if you're not ready for it (y)

I've found that the window winder stays quite happily on the splines without the clip, if you think you might need it off again. I have one where the lock mechanism keeps detaching and the handle's been without clip for a couple of years, to make access easy - no-one's pulled it off yet even when borrowing the car :idea:

:woot::woot:
Sorted! Got a replacement regulator from DA motors In wickford.
Once I got home and started fitting I discovered it was the passenger side instead of the driver side that I need.:bang:
Anyway, I did not want to go back and exchange it, so i stripped my old one and put the the 'drive' cable of the 'new' one. And... result, it works and goes all the way up.
Also re-taped that pathetic plastic sheeting to the window. I also had the opportunity to check the door thoroughly for rust, and I am pleased to say it is mint :D
Thanks guys for the advice!

Yep I'll second all that. I run the drivers side without the clip. Mostly 'cos I foolishly opened the door to remove said clip and pinged it off into the wide blue yonder never to be seen again.:eek:

If it makes you feel any better, many years ago I broke a very sharp kitchen knife trying to prise one off a 127 - as it broke, the clip pinged off never to be seen again, and I nearly sliced my hand in the process. Dangerous things horseshoe clips, but lesson learned :eek:
