Just learned today that the CLX has failed its MOT... emissions too high - needs new exhaust inc CAT ... ye gods - smelling salts at the ready... and welding not up to par...
good news is that the guy likes my cider...
still no mention of cost yet but the guy sounds confident :slayer:
anyone like to have a guess at the final cost...
(preferably in bottled conditioned cider - pints)

My guess is 300 pints.

Just to add, when i fitted the spi engine in the onyx the cat would not fit, it fouled on the body underneath, so i made a hole in the carbed downpipes, welded in the lambda sensor holder and fitted the lambda sensor with no cat.......whent through mot fine....mind you it did say on the V5 it was reg in 1984 ( from the oem donor that was a 750 carbed).

but it still drives great......apart from the injector light making an apperance now n then....

i was always told that if you want to decat you need to put a resistor on one of the wires of the lambda sensor. ive never done a decat however so i not 100% sure.

also water injection really cleans an engine out.. i did it on the cinq through the vacuum line. made a drip bottle so i could count the flow and used a small fish tank air valve to adjust it
the evidence was the 2 times i took the exhaust manifold off, the first time it was sooty but a few months after using the water injection it was really clean.
it will rust the exhaust like hell but the cinq one was already patched up and ready to go again. i had one ready to put on after i finished using the water injection kit i found on a cinq in the local scrappers with a brand new exhaust for £15

ill do it on my panda, but the exhaust is already paper thin :/ maybe when i get a stainless one made up

I take a keen interest during the MOT and don't remember either the S or the 4x4 having an emissions test - both are H reg. Is it an age thing ie. 20 yr cut off? or 'cos the N reg CLX has emission control fitted - ie. cat
I'm thinking I'll need to add another £100 to my estimate for the work... at least

Don't you mean add another 5 gallons to the estimate..

Pandas only use a single Lambda sensor that is before the CAT so removing the CAT should not make any difference to how it runs. Cars that have two, one before and one after the CAT may have problems but I'm not 100%.

A new rule has come in to force this year that means any car that was fitted with a CAT when new must have one fitted for the MOT regardless of what its emissions are. AM it is possible your Panda has passed the emissions test without the CAT, which has been fine up to this year when it will need a CAT regardless. I would get looking for one now(y)

LWM I would try running some CAT cleaner through before you go for a new CAT, tricky though I suppose with it not being on the road.

CATs came in in late 92 so any car after this needs to have one fitted.

Theres ones on ebay for £75, which seems too cheap. But other places online are £105, so maybe not.

I have never had the injector warning light come on, it shows up on the dash, but never when running. (y)
