Hello i have a 750 CL Panda, i have big plans for it, but one of my concern is how to improve the braking power.

I have available mk1 uno turbo disks and punto gt brakes altogether.
Does either the uno or the punto brakes fit..and i don't mean bolt on..with some adjustment of course?
Did anyone elde do it ?

This Panda have Multipla brakes, but you need 15" wheels for that.

The Multipla conversion looks like a straight retro-fit but the brake pedal will be on the floor before anything happens and 15's on a Panda would look like a Tonka toy.

I can see your getting excited Vern...:D

No, I've already worked out my brake upgrades Kev and they don't go that far. You'd have to be producing 150 bhp + to warrant brakes so big that you have to have 15" wheels.

15" doesn't look too bad with very low profile tyres, if you remember this pic the tyres are 185/55/15's which is too big.

165/65/13's are generally thought to be ideal for a Panda, so to get the same rolling radius with a 15" wheel you'd need 165/50/15 tyres.

VmanC, what did you do to your brakes? what upgrades?

Not done yet but the plan is to upgrade to Selecta discs and calipers. I've got this in mind for two Panda's I'm currently fitting bigger engines to, one will have a Punto 75 unit, the other a 1242 16v. Neither engine will produce more than 100bhp so I think the Selecta brakes should be sufficient, plus I still have the option of 13" wheels.

Selecta calipers are thin on the ground, I only have one pair, but I've noticed that the Punto 75 uses the same piston assembly. The caliper is made up of two main parts that slide together and although the part with the piston is the same the other part which bolts to the hub is different. The two bolt spacing on the Selecta is spot on for the Panda of course, but on the Punto they are closer together. I'm hoping to re-drill the holes in the hub backplate on one of the Pandas to allow fitment of the complete Punto assembly.

I haven't checked the possible use of the 16v Puntos calipers yet, but this too may be an option. Will let you know once I've reached this stage.

I'm not too bothered about the rear brakes as they don't contribute a great deal overall, but if these initial improvements aren't sufficient I will be looking to take things further.

I know that if you increase the size of the brakes too much you then need to look for a master cylinder that can displace more fluid, so keeping the mods as moderate as possible, but good enough, may save this hassle.

Thanks for the info, as i was saying, a have mk1 uno turbo disks and punto gt brake "package" ( pump, servo..etc). i also want to have the 13" wheel option( uno T)..but will see when i take the panda/punto brakes apart. My engine option is 1.4 T from the GT soo bigger brakes and tires are needed indeed.

That package should be up to the job, be sure to keep us up to date. (y)
