Another year...another MOT

Mine was due on the 16th which I didn't realise until the week before.
Failed  But it did sound worse than it was....

'Nearside inner sill vehicle structure has excessive corrosion'
I saw it - about 3 cm wide by 1 cm high mid-way between the arch and the jacking point.

Arm ball joint dust covers damaged

Fuel Tank insecure

Rear fog lamp not working

So, a spot of welding, 2 new ball covers, a home made strap and a new bulb and it's on the road for another year (y)

Couple of advisories -

Front coil spring corroded - doesn't seem too bad. I might get a wire brush on it and paint it.

Inner bushes (suspension arms) split. I have been advised it's not a DIY job.

I'm amazed at the emissions - normal idle zero CO and fast idle ... well within limits like close to the minimum.

Congratulations :)

Glad the fuel tank strap came together. The corroded coil springs is an advisory I got as well. A bit silly really IMHO especially considering how many Vectra springs fail when still covered in manufacturers paint.

looks to be easy man! i dread to think how long my list of failures would of been on the car!

are they the ones on the front of the car, where the arm bolts to the floor pan/back of engine bay?

if so, mine are split also.. ill have to keep a look out for some new ones.. i think its a DIY job.. ive had the bottom arms off my car and painted them. i think with enough coaxing they would come out and you could replace them.

well theres a guaranteed advisory for my car then :/ i know they are solid so maybe if i smother them in silicone grease they will pass.

Front suspension arms are easy to change and it's best to renew the whole arm, they're only about £15 each. The rubber bushes are shaped like an egg timer so are tight to fit, not worth the hassle.

If you mean the rear arms then the same applies but more expensive.

hi. I had the same failure, the cill near the wheel arch, both sides, a lip crumbing on the outer cill, n/side, and....the fog light! but when it was raining all day thurs/fri, i checked it! worked!!!! strange! other parts available! the fuel tank is still safe, as it is bolted through eyes in the tank, as purlpe haze has mentioned
