Panda (Classic) Classic Panda Bianca, Full Restoration.

Introduction

Today we began a full resto on "Apple" our 1987 Bianca model...:D

Found a paint sprayer with a yard big enough for us to strip out the car to a shell which is what we did..and 7 hours later Heike and me stripped every nut, grommet and bolt off the car.

We will get the engine out tomorrow so the bay can be re-sprayed (thanks for that Vern!..;)) and then clean and replace bits on that once out.

We have lots of new stuff to put on like bumpers, grille and wheel trims which will also get sprayed white.

The underneath will also be done as well as the inside...so should be complete and perfect..:D...(y)

The major surprise was just how fantastic the condition of the car was.....even the front valance and the inside of the front and rear wheel arches which everything removed showed no signs or rust!!

New suspension, brake parts etc etc...will be dug out the cellar and fitted..if needed or not....so there we are....pictures of the resto will follow as time goes by and all being well it should be done in about two weeks. Then off the the trimmers to have new twin sunnys fitted.

Now the car will not be worth the money which is going to be spent on it, but, It is a car we intend to keep forever and is the model which I originally had in the eighties... Wish us luck...:)

Re: Full restoration begins...

Will be looking out for those pics Kev, this should be a good one (y). Two weeks is a little ambitious, but is do-able if you're organised, as I'm sure you are ;).

Re: Full restoration begins...

Hey all best of luck with that resto...wanna see the pickies......soooooon. LOL

Do we have a section on this forum called RESTO...just asking...hint.

nice to keep a track of things you change or upgrade as a bible for others if they want to be ambitious and do a resto them selves.

When it comes to some of the mods put forward by optimistic whipper snappers wanting a Subaru engine in a Panda I reckon it should be '****e Ideas' as spoken By Sean Connery!

Re: Full restoration begins...

I have a shell...panels without glass and a very big pile of bits...looks scary.

I have never had a car completely stripped before...looks scary.

I have alot of work to do to get everything ready for putting back together....looks scary.

Good news is it really is in amazing condition...even the sprayers are gobsmacked...

Did I mention it looks scary??...:D

P.S...I'm having probs posting pics with the iPad...bear with me guys and gals.

Re: Full restoration begins...

Looking good, amazing how clean it is, looking forward to the finished article(y)

Seeing all these threads is making me want to get cracking on my Sisley, just got to wait til after the winter.

Thanks...I still have a problem understanding how it has stayed so rust free??

Your sisley is going to worth much more when it's done.....but that's not why we do it I guess...:)

Re: Full restoration begins...

Yep, you would never find something like a Mini in that good a condition, and if it was if would be worth ££££

My Sisley will be alot more work though and it definitely wont be done in 2 weeks thats for sure, must be the record for the fastest restoration surely:p

Re: Full restoration begins...

I've not finished it yet!!...

To be honest it maybe a bit longer, but, I do have to get my finger out as I can't leave the shell at the sprayers.

What will take the longest time will be cleaning the stuff which is going back on...:bang:

Re: Full restoration begins...

Looks very rust free Kev (y). It's funny how the odd few just don't seem to rust . Fiat must have had a good batch of steel in when they made them.
