Crap!!!

I've bought them as well, still not fitted - i might get some OE insted.
Thanks for sharing

I don't think there was anything wrong with the original ones I took out but as I was replacing other parts I thought I would go to task on it. I noted that these Chinese UJ's are regreaseable which I took as an advantage over the originals but obviously if they are made from monkey metal then they will soon be shot.

I will ask when I pick the shaft up in a few days where they get the good spec UJ's from.

For other info they charge £30+vat for balancing, what I don't know if this was for balancing a shaft or the complete system. Replacing new UJ's, cleaning one of the CV's and balancing its costing £130+vat, oooof

yeah i think they are taking you for a ride.

i have a prop shaft that needs re-balancing myself. its going to be the one that goes on Project Fallout panda.. i made the mistake of forgetting which way everything goes.

best thing to do is to take a video of it when its off, making sure you show where all the weights are.

I do feel like I'm being ripped off but the company does have a good rep so I've still got faith that they know best.

Has anyone used gaskets in between cv joint and gearbox flange or one at the other end?

I doubt they are ripping you off, the quality of most aftermarket parts is pretty terrible, especially when they come from China. I fitted some new supposedly GKN UJs to a Land Rover propshaft and then had it balanced as the weight had half rotted off. The company who did it said the new UJs looked like cheap ones and would probably not last too long so I think your place is probably telling the truth. The UJs I fitted were still on when I sold the Land Rover a few thousand miles later.

Anyway if they wanted to rip you off they would tell you you needed new CVs aswell! I've never heard of using gaskets on the CV joints, its highly unlikely any muck will get inbetween the join I would think.

Thanks for your comments, it's only the people that see the things everyday that are able to easily identify sub standard parts, it's hard to argue with them when I bought them off ebay. At least I know the job will be a good'n.

When I took the existing shaft off first time there was a thin rubber gaskets on the non boot side of both cv's, presumed they were needed to create a good seal to stop crap getting into the cv. They certainly make getting the shaft off a pig of job!

That's them, bet they are only available with the kit. Might have to make my own.

Spoke to Franco at Ricambio, gaskets only available with their kits they he has just listed, he has said they only have half of their stock on the website.

Alfa 156cv's cost me £20 for 2. I might have a go at making my own gaskets.

yeah, i just used some thickish green card from filling cabinet dividers. i just stuck it between a sandwich of instant gasket.
i did that for the water pump too and its still great with no leaks even my home made silent compressor has the same, and thats been tested up to 5000PSI (love them hermatically sealed compressors) so it must work good! :D

I've got po(r)sh 911 as well as panda - just joking.

I'll let you know next week, if ythey are the right size i'll scan it in 1:1 scale and send it over to you so you can use it as a template.

Are you just going on the diameter of the cv of 88mm?

Hell if there the same size I will just buy a couple rather than getting crafty with a Stanley!
