Hi,

I have owned a 1992 Panda 999cc FIRE for arond 4 months.

It was running hot in traffic (approx 5/7 across the temp gauge) so I flushed the radiator, used a Holts de-gunking product and changed the coolant. It has been losing coolant from around the area of the oil filter ever since.

I have checked for leaky hoses etc and have found none. Having studied the Haynes manual I came to the conclusion that the leak is coming from around the water pump, and my plan was to remove the cambelt cover and have a look to find the leak, with a view to removing and refitting the water pump to remedy it.

- Have I come to the right conclusions? Where else should I be looking for the leak?

- Is refitting the water pump a job for a non mechanic (yet competent instruction/diagram reader - although I seem to have messed up on the coolant change!)

I would be very grateful for other members comments/advice about what I should do next.

Many thanks

Hi,

It sounds like it's probably coming from the pipe that connects the water pump to the hose - they tend to corrode. I've not done this job myself but it shouldn't be too difficult. If it is the pipe you'll need to get a new one from Fiat and replace. I believe you have to use a sealing compound too. It really depends on how much mechanical stuff you've done as to how easy you'd find it. It's not that difficult though.

Hi,
Just for the record, I replaced the water pump and this seems to have fixed the leak. The bolts securing the water pump were not tight as I removed it so I suspect the water pump I took off is actually fine and just the seal was knackered.
