Hello.

It's a 1000CL -87.
My transmission has not been working to well last couple months. Gear changes been a proper workout. Changed the oil, and i saw alot of metal filaments on the drain plug.
Well, the oil change did not work. Ended up only using 1,3 and 5 gear as they were easiest to get into. Well, in desperation, i fitted a axe shaft to the gear lever to make it a little longer, to get more momentum. Worked like a charm, for a week.
This sunday the connection between the gear selector lever and transmission broke clean off as i was changing to 4th gear.
Is this fixable or is it dead?

Sorry for posting without having done the proper research first.

Here you have the broken part.

Now i wonder if anyone know were to get a new/used one?
Any help appreciated.

I figure that.

But it's almost impossible to rotate the workings of this part, i don't know if its supposed to be quite easy, but it feels like it's almost stuck in place.
Is this a part that normally never fails?

Well, the good news is, your Panda isn't dead.

This part should be free to rotate easily. I'm guessing yours has corroded inside the tube leading to the situation you have now. This isn't a part you're going to be able to get from a motor factor though. Your only options will be direct from a Fiat dealer or try to source a used one.

Thanks, default_user, happy to hear that, my hope is when i put in a working one, gear changes will be smooth again. Hope.

Indeed the tube has rusted from the inside out, ceasing it and causing the lower arm to snap.

When you get your new bits, lubricate every rod and joint. I always try tp lubricate all working parts once every couple of months to keep them sweet.

Good man for getting it off though. It's in a pretty tricky place.

As for the metal filings in the gearbox drain. I wouldn't be too worried about that. Car engines and gearbox's make metal throughout their lives and as long as there are no huge bits (not that you can do anything about it now anyway!) you'll probably be fine.

Well, have gotten hold of a fairly new one as it looks to me, will not be able to test it until late august, vacation is a bitch...:p

Interestingly enough I have now lost 1st gear!

It's like there's a brick wall in the way of 1st gear and the gearstick won't go past it.

Don't really want to force it incase I break the linkage so will have to inspect for any obvious problems and drain the gearbox.

What is the best oil for the gearbox? Apparently non EP oils are best despite it reccomending them in the manual & halfords book.
