Just been out and bought a Haynes manual for a Punto lol

Hopefully should help with deciding what parts of the loom are missing.

This 'relay box' is definately gone though, and I'm not too sure about the Lambda sensor connections either.

I'm driving to Blackburn on tuesday to check out a Mk1 16v Punto as I need the exhaust manifold from it. Hopefully looking at it will clear a lot of stuff up...........aswell as my bank balance lol

Righteo :)

I drove to Blackburn and got a few parts from a scrapped Punto Sporting.

The manifold and part of a downpipe are now on! Handily enough, the panda exhaust fits inside Punto downpipe, so can just use a clamp with some exhaust sealant and it should be fine. It's now decatted too.

Having major wiring troubles though, a few of the colours in the Punto wiring diagram are different to what I actually have in the loom which leads to lots of head scratching and lost time.

Can't seem to find the fuel vapour canister solenoid wires in the Panda body loom, and also struggling with some brown & white wires in the Punto engine loom.

Getting there though!

Just need a couple of scotch locks, some gearbox & engine oil and it should be running.

Okay!

So now the engine turns over, but it will not start.

Seems that once the fuel pump has pressurised the system and turned off - so does the rest of the loom.

Also, what electrical noises are normal to hear once the system has been turned on and off? Seem to have a a few clicks and strange electronic sounds.

Any help appreciated as it's almost working now!

I think there has been work carried out on the loom which doesn't help matters. Might have to go back to Blackburn and buy the loom from the Punto and see if it matches my wiring diagrams.

Before I get another loom, has anyone else had problems with the wiring diagrams in the Punto manual?

e.g - pinout diagrams incorrectly labelled/non existant wires and empty pins where there should be wires?

I have a feeling the apprentices, no actually the evening janitor, did some work on the Punto loom lol

I didn't have many issue with matching up the colours but all I had to wire up was the big multi plug. The rest of the loom was complete thankfully.

These engines do make some strange electrical motor and relay type sounds when you put the ignition on and off. Not got a clue where the sounds come from. All I know is that it works :D

You are nearly there. Good work (y)

Cheers

So your loom was complete but without the multi-plug that connects into the ECU?

Bit strange lol

Ahhhh I'm just going to have to get another punto loom and start again I think.

It's very time consuming and difficult to 'un bodge' someone elses 'bodging'. Especially when you don't know why it was done in the first place.

Thanks for the support though! I might just take this noose off now.....haha :D

Sorry, perhaps didn't explain myself properly. The connector for the ECU was all there, it was the circular one that connects the loom in the engine to the car's loom that I had to wire up. So I only had about 10 wires to identify and connect together.

Cheers
