Hi guys, the better half has Bex at work today and has reported a noise from the front passenger side of the car.

It only happens when turning to the right, she said it was just on round abouts first but then any slight moment to the right is causing the sound.

The sound is not as slight as a squeek but not as loud as a whine.

I have a ball joint to fit but I'm not sure that will fix it.

Have any of you guys had similar problems / noises from the front.

I'm kind of gessing CV joint or bearing, but not having heard it myself its hard to judge, anyway if there is a recognised problem Panda's have relating to that I can go ahead and order op the parts today ready for tomorrow :)

Cheers guys

Darren

I've just been out in it and the sound is one of those nice intermittent ones

Its a nice howel that only happens when you corner to the right, but interestingly not every time. I've tried the full lock cornering both ways and there is no clicking or jumping

Whenever I've had a howling noise from the front passenger side it's usually been the better half, but that can't apply in your case ;).

Does applying the brakes make any difference to the noise?

No neither the brakes or accelerating makes any difference.

At first I thought the bottom ball joint but the howel keeps going even when I stop turning the steering wheel.

The only thing I have noticed is that you can sometimes make the noise happen when you corner hard to the right, it will then be there for a bit, but go after a while :bang:

I'd bet wheel bearing, especially as it is a noise from the left when cornering right. Jack the car up, keep the wheel on and whilst holding the top and bottom of the tyre, push with one hand and pull with the other then reverse the movement. Any slack is no good.

Well I took Bex out for a run today 160 mile round trip to Locerbie to see if I could make the problem so bad it would be able to be seen by a blind man on a etc etc.

Its still the same, intermitent and puzzling.

The only thing extra to add is that it happens more when going faster round corners to the right and goes away when you press the brake while cornering.

Any comments welcome please.

The breaking will stabilise the wheel and make a dodgy wheel bearing noise go away. Did you check for up down wheel wobble like I suggested? It only take a minute and no tools are required!

Not as yet, alas the weather has been against me.

First dry spell I will be though

Got it jacked up today, there is movement on the bearing. I'll be getting one this week.

Anyone got any fitting tips or removal tips please?

Got mine to do too so will watch with interest. On checking with Haynes it looks straightforward, the only thing that might be worth mentioning is to ensure the driveshaft doesn't pull out of the gearbox, as I'm not sure if the three bearings on the tripod will stay on it. If they can slip off and do, it will mean a little extra work unbolting the inner gaitor to reassemble them.
Good luck, be sure to post anything I might need to know. ;)

Took it out tonight and all sounds lovely, no noise.

Thanks guys it was the bearing after all (y)
