Hi Everybody,

3 months ago I bought 1992 panda fire 1000 clx, overall car is in good condition and I havent experience any major problem, however recently it start to play up a little.

The problem is ; sometimes when I turn the key to start the engine all the usual lights will come on in the control panel but it wouldnt do anything else, does not even try to start the starter motor just sits there doing nothing.

The battery in it is in good condition so I dont think it is the battery.

And because somethimes it will start without anyproblem I am not sure where else to check.

Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like you may have a problem with you ignition switch, it's located in the back of the steering lock. You'll need to check if there is a feed coming from the switch to the starter solenoid when you turn the key. If there is and the switch is ok the next likely culprit is the starter motor solenoid, or the motor itself.
Let us know if you need more details to check this, gaining access, colour of wires etc. but you will need a test light or multimeter before you start.

Thanks to you both, I didnt expect a reply so soon for my question, this froum is great.

I have some maual for my panda and ve multimeter and posibly I will check both ignition and the starter motor as suggested.

Will let you know the out come.

Thanks Again

my starter did exactly that last year, the solenoid jamming so it just didn't kick in. If it is the same, carry a hammer in the car and it'll usually persuade till you get round to changing it;)
gotta love Panda maintenence:D

I had a similar problem with ARG, with that it was the ingition switch. I found a quick tap with a hammer worked, until it fell out in my hand and I had to make that switching box

On a possitive note though it did alow me to make that push button start (y)
