Ok guys, Trevor has kindly offered me a new tailgate for Bex, however when checking with Fiat Bex needs a 7537385 which is they say the early version. He has a later one 7616143.

Question is, how much difference is there, if I fit that one (being unable to get the correct one from Fiat as they dont make em or find a second hand one)

From what I've read its something to do with the lights sticking out a bit more on one version than the other, is it that noticable?

Also will the later one actually fit, mounting, lock etc?

Only difference I can see is between mk1 and mk2 Panda's which had different rear lights. Bex is a mk2, and all mk2's are compatable with one another as far as I'm aware.

Is there much of a difference with the lights. If it's only quarter of an inch or so then so whay, but if its over an inch then that might cause some problems.

Hi there,

I have a mk2 tailgate on my mk1 (1985) and it fits just fine. The only change made is an indent on the mk1 tailgate for the number plate to go (on the bumper on mk2). Tail lights are the same depth, but are wider on the mk2 as they wrap around the side a bit.

I bet silly plonker thinks that the current mk3 is a mk2

Not sure, but he did give me that alternate part number.

Time will tell when the tailgate gets here and I try it in place

I'll post the pics when it does.

fiat call any old panda upto 1995 (uk models) a mk1 and any of the new panda a mk2, trouble is we know pandas from 1981 to 1985 as mk1 and 1985 to 1995 as mk2 and those new panda things as mk 3 god now im confused

I do believe the new pandas have two mk's. So currently it's on mk4. But correct me if i am wrong

No they don't. Just a minor face lift, just like the mk2 had in 1992/1993 with the rad grilles being changed

The tailgate came today and holding it up to the one on the car it just looks exactly the same

Yes.
Tailgate from MK1 (1978-1986) will fit MK2 and other side too.
Only different is reg plate patern on MK1 tailgate.
