General Light at the end of the tunnel

Got Retro Cars yesterday. Car looks shiny! Sort of odd to see a Y10 in a magazine! Must be a nice end to the project.

I wonder if they would "get" my Panda enough to put it in a mag like this, rust and all and probably not washed?

It certainly is a nice "end" to the project. I don't think it will ever finish. :)

In many ways I am disappointed that I have not found a suitable t-jet for the next phase of the Y10. Hopefully in time I will get a chance to install one if nothing else to say that I got the better of the mental wiring that makes them tick  Hopefully the v-tec won't be as hard... aye right!!

If you want to get your car(s) featured just drop them an email with a couple of pics and they will come back to you quickly. See page 108 of the latest edition.

Cheers

Dave

Looking forward to your Vtec build thread. What a fantastic engine. What a build you have ahead of you!

Thanks Lewis.

The build is pain already as the "complete conversion kit" that I bought is not very complete :bang: Wiring missing, engine mounts missing, clutch slave and master cylinders missing and the crank shaft pulley..... you guessed it missing :bang::bang::bang:

They guy that sold me the kit is so embarrassed he is going to give the the rest of the car (y) Only problem is it is in the south east :(

Oh well all part of the fun.

Cheers

Dave

Been doing a bit more research on the Italian tinternet. I'm happy to say pererverance has been rewarded with more prototype images :D

First 2 pics seem to be Giugiaros proposal for the A112 replacement...
Second set is Pinifarinas crack at the same problem
And the last are clay models and a rendering of the final article done by a gentleman called Maioli according to the website.

Good to see there's still Y10's on the road, I've had 5 or 6 of them - all long gone unfortunately :( - best one was my 1988 LX which I restored, fitted GT seats, PI lowering springs, Turbo bumpers, Thema turbo wheels and finished it off in Cinquecento yellow :D - The shell got a bit tatty, especially around the sunroof so it got sidelined, then scrapped, which in hindsight I think I should have just rebuilt it into a better shell. Keep up the good work with this one (y)

Hi All

It has been a while since I have posted anything on the forum. Not much happened to be honest. The Y10 got through its MOT no problem earlier in the month and is getting plenty of use.

My VTEC plans have been an gone. I spent a weekend stripping a CRX of anything of value and sold the complete conversion kit last week. Hopefully the guy i sold it to will make better use of it than me.

I have also bought a mk2 Punto to tidy up and sell on. Proving to be a bit of a turkey but you win some you lose some.

Still dearly want to do a T-jet conversion into a panda or y10 and still have first dibs on a track prepped y10 shell. Just need the right donor and a lottery win!!

Cheers

I worked for a Lancia dealer (remember them?) in the mid 80s and my firm's car was a Y10 Turbo. I loved the Alcantara seats and trim and the understated metallic black with the matt black tailgate.

I hated the turbo lag but loved what came later. It was a bit like a schizophrenic Jack Russell. Licking your hand one minute then a few seconds later ripping your gonads to shreds.

In my less mature days I could, after an initial hesitation, keep with an Escort XR3i from a standing start and on the M62 held off an Alfa GTV 2.5 from 50 to around 100.

The rear styling puzzled me slightly as the black wrap around tailgate made the car look even shorter than it was, until I did wonder if the Gruppo were just trying to get us used to a particular look. Then we got the Cinquecento.

i know its an old thread and build but good work fella! My eyes hurt now but i will checkout your barchetta thread soon. (y)

Thanks chap.

A couple of things on the to do list before heading to the Panda Camp at the start of June. Hopefully have some nice comfortable Alfa 147 leather seats in next week and a replacement stepper motor in the throttle body.

Cheers

Dave

I have posted the following in the Panda section but thought I had better update this thread too!

Finally had a gap in the weather to start swapping the seats in the Y10

The current ones are bolted straight onto the floor.

Five minutes later the passenger seat was out.

Trial fitted the 147 seat and it look ok with the original runners being mounted on floor. Will need to make a spacer for one of the rear mounts to get the angle right. Also need to 'trim' one of the original runners as it is catching slightly.

I think the driver's seat will need a bit more thought as it has a height adjustable mechanism.

Would have got more done, but it started to rain

Got the rear bench out today and it is surprising how much the sun has bleached the black to grey.

Also cleaned up the Alfa rear seats before taking them to the trimmers.

Not that you will ever get asked this in a pub quiz, I thought you would be interested to see just how many seats you can get in the back of an Abarth!

Should get the rear seats back with the Alfa leather on in a few weeks. Hopefully before the Scottish Italian Car Day at the end of May (y)

Cheers

Hey Dave

I see you have one of the bent strut braces, are there any clearance issues with the TB on the back of the engine? I tried to fit mine once before and it seemed to foul on the carburettor. I'd always assumed the clearance issues were because it was meant for the faster models that don't have the crossflow engine.

Hi Kris

Yes I have a Sparco strut brace but as you have experience, it doesn't fit the FIRE engined y10s. Mine is for a GTie according to the label on it. Not sure if it would fit a Turbo or not…

You could always make your own like on the y10 race car (y)
