Also, how do you change the pump?

Jim

First disconnect the battery, sparks and petrol fumes:eek:

Lift the back seat and boot liner. There will be a 8 inch round plastic cover, remove. (I find it easier to remove the back seat, move the front seats fuuly forward and work form the seat wells rather than thro the boot)

Unplug the two wiring plugs and undo the nut holding the fuel hose bracket (it will probably shear:mad:) and lift out red and white hoses. Make sure you are working with all the car doors open, etc because of fumes.

Before trying to remove the pump unit first remove the fuel gauge sender, you won't get the pump unit out otherwise:eek: It twists out (with the help of a hammer and drift).

Remove the pump unit retaining ring (again hammer and drift, although there is probably a proper tool and if any one has one it'll be Stuart;)). Lift out pump unit. You should be looking at something like this:

If you buy a new pump I think this is what you get. However if you have a spare pump, the brown bit in the centre, you can swop just that bit over (as you have to if uprating the pump for mpi).

Tilt the rear seat forward, close the doors (from the inside) press the lighter in the dash to make sure it's working and then disconnect the "fuel out" pipe while turning the engine over. That should sort things.

Or just bring car and new fuel pump to my house :D

Aww.. you always look after me!:D

But I'm doing ok so far. I've the old pump out of Asbo (it's kinda nice that he lives on in so many little pandas. His interior is in a mix of Mojo and Lloyd, glass is in Juppy and his engine is in Sylvia and the bumpers and lights all are on Splutter. He was a brave little panda:worship:)

So I'm going to stick the new pump into Mojo but does anyone find it slightly worrying that they're live wires in their petrol tank????

Jim

I have to be honest, the first time I started Twinky after fitting the 16v and new fuel pump was at arms length thro the window ;)
