hey has anyone succesfully taken these off and filled the threaded holes?.. also the black trim you get on the sides of clx pandas, has anyone takent them off and filled the holes??..

just wondering if its hard to do, and if anyones done it could you post a step by step with pics?

thanks. (y)

Me again! I didn't realise you had a CLX!

If you are removing your trim, I am looking for a replacement rear passenger side with the CLX logo on it if you are looking to sell them on.

I have not takenoff any trim as yet but I will do as I have to re-spray my door bottoms at some point.

Most Easterly Pandas will have removed this trim before and will know how it's done. Over to you Jon...

Not done the front ones but the door trim taps fwd on it's plastic mounts and the rear one is secured with plastic plugs and one mount - the main one being behind the CLX logo badge (this can be prised off but may crack the sm plastic locators) best to find it on the inside - push out the central pin that expands the clip's lugs and the trim will slide off. The easiest then would be to dob a bit of glass mat behind and fill?

The bars have a captive nut beneath, not sure what secures it though.
I'd be interested in the bars though! And the captive nuts it you going to get at the back of the holes... otherwise a ground off bolt would seal the hole with a little filler from above.

I haven't

Hence the silence up until now :p

Only Panda's we had with the side trim like this was the Sisley's and we had no reason to remove on those.

I think they're held on with clips like Mick has said, and although they may brake, can still be brought from Fiat for pennys (about the only thing that dealer doesn't rip you off for :p)

I've no idea about the trim as yet, so I'd probably concur with LWM's post there

As for the bars, first you have to take out the roof lining (take out that central plastic lug, pop the card /fabric out above the windscreen or tailgate and then you can slide it out) You'll see four large-ish metal bits poking through the roof edges; they're what the bars are bolted to After taking off the small covers at each end of the roofbars, you'll see a bolt head It takes an Allen key Hold onto the clips whilst unscrewing the fixing bolts, tho they're a bit fiddly to remove as they're a funny shape That's about it!

Sorry I've no pics  Good luck!

hey guys, cheers for the responce, ive decided to leave him how he is.

i was only going to take them off to make him look abit more colour matched.. but i am goin to spray them white now along with the front and rear bumpers, as for the roofbars.. im growing quite fond of them, i was just scared some little :tosser: would try rolling him by grabbing hold of them!..

yeah i live in a nice town

Roof bars are a cool extra on the CLX...makes it look very rugged!!!:D

I always liked the look of the CLX with the side trim and roof bars.

I didn't go out looking for a CLX especially - just wanted a good solid, low miles Panda. My favoured option was a 750L, the less 'luxuries' the better!!!

The CLX is one of the most equipped UK Pandas ever issued with luxuries such as roof bars, side trim, clock, door pockets, adjustable mirrors etc. :D

ok, right decided to go ahead with taking off the plastic trim.. so there up for grabs again (open to offers) i got trim for both sides of the car, the rear, door and front, ok condition, rear is missing clx badges but might be able to get some to go with them, weathered abit, gone a little grey.

and as promised here are pictures of him :)

some pictures are of him when he was first bought, some are of today after sanding/grinding/filling/sanding/painting the rust.. and filling the holes where the trim was, pictures of exhaust, some of the bootlid after debadging filling and sanding the two annoying holes left after removing the badge, and theres some of the cutom door cards i have made and custom door pockets with 6x9's in them.. still more pictures to come!! tell me what you think:D

just to add, i got a crunching gearbox, everytime i change to 3rd and 4th i get cccccrrrruuunnnccchhh.. and i got a wierd noise that sounds like a wheel bearing on the pas front side i dont think its the wheel bearing tho..it makes the sound when im coming to a stop like doing about 2mph then stop, and its there when i dry steer aswell.. steering rack?.. drive shaft?..

 i have a leak of gearbox oil from the driveshaft gaiter thats getting fixed wed.. so that may be the problem??..(y)

as for the gearbox crunch, thats allways been there, could it be the synchromesh or the "bushes" < (if thats what there called) lol

cheers

I get a crunch from 4th down to 3rd but only when I am going a bit too fast. Are you moving up the box quickly? Do you have the crunch at lower revs/speeds? Could your clutch need adjusting?

I replaced the gearbox oil and boots a little while back and I don't think the gearbox feels that different. You are right to get this done though as you can't drive around without gearbox lubrication.

Let us know how you get on

My n/s driveshaft looks like it's leaking too, but when I checked the oil level it was fine. I think that maybe it only leaks a bit when the car is jacked up and the driveshaft is pulling down on the inner gaiter.

Your crunching gears is probably due to worn syncro, although I do wonder if the Panda suffers from a problem that used to affect early Nissan Sunnys. The main bearings in the gearbox were taper roller type, and when they wore they would allow excessive end float in the main shaft which in turn reduced the effectiveness of the syncro. I don't know if Pandas have taper roller bearings, but if they do I'd be inclined to suspect them.

Whether it's bearings or syncro rings it means a gearbox rebuild, then you'll be ok for another 10,000 miles. :D
