Hello, this is my first post so hello, great forum by the way. Anyway, down to business, i've just bought a j reg 750 Panda, perfect body work and pretty good all round apart from a couple of little problems.

First off, i cant turn the heater of and its driving me nuts. I just fitted a new stereo and the previous owner had done mad things to the wiring such as disconnect the clock and cigar lighter and ram the cables under the instrument panel, anyway whilst fixing the wiring i found that the dash housing is totally screwed( bizarrely some of the screw fixings seem to have been melted). i say this because i suspect you might tell me that i need to get to the temperature switch and i dont think the dash will go back on a second time.

if anyone has any idea whats going on i would really appreciate it.

also i seem to be getting an irregular crinkling sound that seems to be coming from the engine, any ideas?

the gears are suffering from what seems to be the standard panda problem, but i think this will be improved by adjusting the clutch which seems quite high.

there is also an intermittent clunking sound that seems to come from the driver side wheel, it sounds like something is loose, but ill have a closer look tomorrow when i get it up on stands.

sorry for such a long post but im of to wales in it on thursday and wanted to give it a going over before i left.

any suggestions would be most appreciated

thanks

Hi :wave:and welcome to the best Old Skool Classic Panda Forum.

Some one on hear will definately be able to help with your Panda's teething problems . . . but at least your heating works (We had none for ages - just cold air). I'm still amazed by the wealth of information on here (y)

Most of all, enjoy your Panda

Hi and welcome!!!

Most of heating and ventilation probs on Classic Panda took his root from comand bars (in cabbin) which is connected by command wire to the ventilation flaps or to heater matrix valve (placed into black plastic box under bonnet). Many of this is explained and shown onto this thread:
https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-classic/51240-heater-matrix-repair-replacement.html

I think that in your case heater command wire was broken or just loose connection with heater matrix valve, (moved from cabbin by bar marked with blue and red squares) so for the urgent help, you can turn off the heater valve (pipe) machanically by hand, after split Blask-plastic box under bonnet. Be sure that engine is totally cold before touch heater matrix and valve inside plastic black box, .......
Just read suggested thread

Same problem on my 1000s (90) - easy fix. Remove battery. Pull away insulation around air intake for heater matrix - and the control valve is accessible. You can add a length of metal coat hanger here to control both ways from engine compartment. I used a long tie wrap... but can only operate valve one way (off as I remember..?)

Welcome...well thats the heater sorted..(as above)...clutch biting at the top means it may need a new one if it wont adjust (cable gearbox end)...
Crinkle sound..now that is a new one!!!..
Clunking at wheel could be a few things (bearing/drive shaft)..im sure you will spot it when you have a look..(y)

Keep us updated and check out any other stuff on the "search" box...loads of stuff there..(y)
