I have a panda that has had an intermitent problem(power loss when driving, will not idle) I have changed the plugs, leads, fuel filter,distributer and injection unit.

have been told by RAC fitter it could be electric fuel pump 9not enough pressure) where would this be located and how can i test it.

Model is panda 1000 clx fire 1992

Hi, I don't think a 92 panda would have had an electric fuel pump, more likely a mechanical one.

Get yourself over to the calssic panda section, or if a mod can move this thread, we'll all be happy to help

I'm not 100%, but this sounds like a lambda sensor failure. I'd check this next before replacing a fuel pump.

Again, in a 92 panda i dont think they have one. lamdas were introduced with fuel injection as far as i know, which was brought in in 93, this is a 92. I'm also guessing it doesn't have a TDC sensor.

no. fuel injection is time thing. the governmoent made it obligatory in 1993 for emmision reasons. a 92 will still have a carb.

An old joke but possibly appropriate in this case. There may be crud floating about in the float chamber which is occassionally being sucked against the jets. Might be an idea to strip the carb down and clean it. Is there a fuel filter fitted? If not, then aforementioned crud could have been sucked from the bottom of the tank and into the carb.

If tattootoni's Panda is on a K plate could they be saying 92 as K was 92/93 when the car is actually 93?

Hmm, I guess K reg was sept 92 start, so for 3 months it could well be they made fuel injection cars in 92. We'll need him to confirm

Have a look at the reg date.

so for the last 3 months of 92 the was a fuel injected panda, which now opens up a whole new tin of worms as to why the OP ahs these problems.

Like james said, Lamda sensor first, if its duff it will be telling the ECU the wrong info, and in turn will be giving the engine too much fuel, or to less, resulting in more running. An easy, and probaly cheap fix if it is the case.

Could maybe try reseting the ECU aswell?

TDC sensor, I heard that called that the other day Craig, it's crank shaft possition sensor Craig for refrence (sorry to be niggly) as it can't detect when the engine is at TDC or BDC

Some CLX's were carbed as far as I'm aware, Injections came in during K-reg, but was the 93 K's and no 92's. 2 of our Selecta's have been K's but late K's so they've been injection.

Looking at listing although steering wheel is in the way, there appears to be no injection lamp.

Could be the mechanical fuel pump on the way out though through wear on the cam shaft

Jon, my CLX does not have an injection light, I presume the early injection ones didn't.

Correct, so that would explain it. Craigs injection also dosen't have an injection warning lamp as it's a 'inbetweener'
