General Spare Wheel Question...

I don't really know if things have changed during time, but on my own (my '03) it's held in place by a long screw that comes out over the brake fluid tank and a plastic bolt...

Mine has a bracket bolted to the body near the brake mastercylinder and there is a threaded stud poking up over which the wheel is laid. A plastic nut keeps the wheel secure on the stud
I`d post a pic but my daughters using it for work.

Pretty sure they're held the sam way as Lancia Y10's?

If so i'll prob be able to find a spare fixing thing somewhere...

I'll have a look for you see if I have one lying around (y)

The Y10 has a stud on which the wheel sits, and then a plastic lug is then screwed down on the top to keep it secure. All the Pandas I have seen are the same - though the selection at the scrappy is pretty small.

MOT wise, I am sure you need a spare, and a legal one at that. (Or it could be like front fogs - if present, they must be serviceable)

Either way - just lob it in the boot.

Or get onto ebay:

Mine just sits there, its hold in place by the bonnet

I looked into it before, AFAIK can remember you DO NOT need a spare but if you carry one it MUST be within the legal limits etc.

Mine just lays onto the jack...it's held in place by its position and by the particular shape of the wipers' bottle  .But I well remember our old 127 had a long stud to secure the spare wheel...maybe equipped with a plastic butterfly nut.

Hi, I've been away a while.
Re: your spare wheel.
If your car is a 4x4 model the spare is held in place by a spring-loaded nylon threaded fastener, which clamps it to an 'off-road' jack extention.
If it is a standard Panda the spare 'sits' on top of the jack, nestling into the water-bottle and bulkhead. The bonnet is supposed to stop any excess play. mmm.
Hope this helps.
P.S. ALWAYS carry a good spare...or else you'll feel a real prat one day !

See http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_420.htm - the spare wheel is not part of the test, but if there is a defect, the tester has to notify the owner of the car.

As you can see from previous posts, www.motuk.co.uk is one of my favourite sites!

The jack is fitted at one end in a specially shaped recess in the water bottle and a bracket at the bulkhead end. The spare wheel just rests on top; again the washer bottle is shaped to accept it. No straps needed, at least on my old 1989 1000CL, may she rest in pieces :(

Not having a spare wheel MAY cause problems if you have a puncture though. Am I right in saying the the AA or RAC won't help in this case?
