While the beast is in bits I may service the propshaft, epically as Ive noticed the boots are a bit cracked.
Has anyone else done this recently? Any gotchas?
Are the boots and soft mount bearings easy to acquire? Will try Ricambio tomorrow (thanks xsparky)
Is the thing at the gearbox end another CV joint? If so I guess I should use CV grease only.

Thanks, any advice appreciated. Where is that soddin Haynes.

If your going to change the two mid prop bearing mounts have plenty of money  I think still available. The rubber covers are cheeper and worth doing. If the mid support bearings have not torn off metal mounts leave well alone(y)

Best left alone a bit of cracking no ploblem its when the part company with the metal mounting that they are bonded to is when you need to think about a replacement I think they cost about £70.0 + vat if you can get them.
Enjoy the summer of 4x4 motoring . If you don't rag yours about in 4x4 off roading they will or should lastalong time remember to grease up the back nipple on the shaft the only one I have ever found on all my 4x4's(y)

The two front joints on the prop shaft are CV joints. As Allen says, the boots and retaining clips are still available and fairly easy to change. I got mine from a FIAT dealer and they weren't expensive. About £12 each for the boots I think, and pennies for the clips. It's a quite a while since I did mine.

There are a load of pictures of it in bits on my web site. Check the link in my sig and go to "Summer 2007" on the "Build Diary" link.

Rick, do the propshaft CV boots come with the big 6-bolt ring attached?
My call to local fiat dealer today was not to successful in identifying them, or the other telescopic seal.

Yes they do.

Items you need are in the pic:

The items you need are 2 & 3. FIAT part numbers are in the list in the picture.

Thanks Rick, unfortunately, my Fiat dealer is telling me the boots are discontinued.
Where do you get those diagrams from? Is it from the ePER thing on this site. I cant get that to work at all.

Cheers

Yep, that looks like its from eper.

I can never get on during the day because its always to busy, but this time of night should be ok.

The diagrams are from FIATs electronic parts catalogue, ePER. I can never get on to the one on this site but I have my own copy. It's an old version but that doesn't matter as it's only updated for newer models anyway. Happy to pop a copy in the post for you if you want one. PM me with your address if you do.

Edit: Something else to look out for on eBay - Porter manuals. Just like Haynes manuals. There's one available for the Panda and it includes 4x4. I have both, very useful.
