Hi guys, my beloved Panda is going to rest, Ive owned her for 9 years and now the chassis has rotten above the rear springs and its beyond economic repair :(, its on a F and has never let me down, covered 81,000 and still starts first time, but luckily I got offered another on a G plate for £5 but the engine is past it,, only 45,000, I managed to drive it 1 mile in 1st gear, 2nd wouldnt pull, huge noise from gearbox and then it gave up, there was black smoke bellowing out of the engine compartment and there was something bubbling and crackling in there! sounded like a fire so I abandoned it,,but I couldn't leave it :), after 2 days of beggin and pleading I got it towed before the council took it! Now I'm awaiting the keys for a nice little lock-up garage so I can pull the good engine and replace the bag of spanners that some one has killed, hopefully all goes well, Im no great mechanic but Ive pulled a Panda engine out before, and this time Ive begged the local metal merchant with his crane to help and he will despose of the bits too!. Im well happy now :D and I will be motorin again soon, I wont drive another car! The panda lives on!, I will try and get some photos up soon.

buying it for £5 your probably lucky it went 1 mile!

but you must really love the panda - certainly going to a lot of effort for one - you should fit in well here with the other panda owners - they all go above and beyond for their panda's too ;)

Good luck with the swap :)

BTW If you have good headlamps on the scrapper "Pandamanpaul" is looking for passenger side.... send him a private message.
( I think he's in Cornwall at the moment, but you never know. )

YES PLEASE!!!!!!!

Panda driver desperately seeks passenger side headlamp for enlightened evenings. Please reply to BOX No: 141 :D:D:D

But seriously, if you do have a spare nearside headlamp, please can you send me an e-mail or a private message?

Cheers

Paul

Hi guys, well the car has now gone and Ive loads of bits :) as well as 10 wheels :D, the metal man cant take those,, the engine came out smoothly. The body was lifted off, it was quite funny to see an engine sat in the middle of the road on a hill, on its lonesome [8D] , Ive sorted paul out with a headlamp just in time . I'll keep you posted over the next few weeks on how I get on putting the motor back in my £5 treasure :D

Any idears on the best way to remove some huge silly pruple flash go-faster stripes all over the doors?, Ive had a little pick at them and they seem tough to get off..

Cheers guys

;)

Well, if you do remove them, then the body colour underneath won't be anywhere near as faded as the rest of the car, so it might be for the best if you leave it on?

Hi Dub and welcome!!

Wish you all the best in getting your £5 special running!

As most of the folks on the forum are apparently placing bets on how long it'll take to get MY Panda running, then I'll look to you for inspiration :D

(Me or the car? Actually, you're right on both counts ;))

Hi guys!

Ive finally made a start this last week on the (new) Panda at last!! :D

All the engine is clear of driveshafts and cables now :), just hangin there on the mounts waiting until I can get some guys to lift the body with us for the swap, the new engine is waiting desparetly to get in there hehehe.. I was wondering if I replace the shafts/discs from my old pandy will it need any alignment or will I get away with it? it would be a lot easier because the lower balljoint has gone and the boots are starting to split on the ones I removed lol... what a job I took on [)] :D, I've also gotta swap the whole dashboard too because its been stuck together with carpet tape [:0] plus my old one has the pull out plate in for the jvc stereo ;) lol....

I'll pop in now and again and keep ya posted and i'm gonna get a few shots soon..

Bets on!

Now I've GOT to get mine up and running. Gearbox has been swapped but there's a whole lot of rust and electrics to fix. Oh, and the balljoints too :)

Hi Dub.
I bought Pinkie ( my pink panda ) from the company I used to work for, when i got her she had 'Co-operative care' + the phone number plastered over the bonnet, the boot and right along both sides. I took the letters off using a hair dryer to warm the glue they then peel off fairly easily ( mind you ..it plays havoc with your nails !!!!) any remaining adhesive is easily removed with a cloth and methylated spirit. I then used AutoGlym colour restorer .... to even up the colour.
Pink is a great colour but it fades like mad. Eventually i took Pinkie to a local garage and got them to use a buffer...so she now looks MEGA PINK !!!
The repair to the rotten bit on the drivers door has finally been done all thats left is to spray the repaired area.
Hope all goes well with your engine swop.

Did the outside of the door rot around the sills and generally flap when the door shuts? mine did! It was a box of rust on wheels! Still, cant complain, the only thing that went wrong on it was the clutch within the year i owned it

Hi Brickfoot !
The drivers door developed a rot patch on the corner just down from the hinge, it looked like someone had attacked it with a tin opener. The guy that repaired it for me took the door off, welded a plate in then filled it etc. It just needs spraying up now. I managed to get some paint mixed at Halfords, God knows how the selection of colours they used ever made PINK but it did.
