The van's MOT is looming up soon, so some preparation for him to pass has started.
So a rare free saturday came up at Wayne's (my other half) workshop, for the van to go on the ramp so he could have his welding done. Waynes business is only based around racecar, rollcage and chassis fabrication, so it was rather funny to see the panda stealing a few hours on the ramp, it also provoked wayne in to often muttering 'bl**dy fiats'! No matter how hard I try, he'll never be a fan !
Anyway, some fair substantial welding was required around the nearside shock mount and a small-ish patch on the front of the floor to sill. Its quite scary really, how a car can be all shiny on top but have such a rusty bottom ! I suppose its because its been my daily driver for the past four years or so, come rain or shine - I suppose it takes its toll eventually.
The welding is all done now, i've bought all new shock absorbers, ball joints, bottom arms, and EBC brakes and drums, that'll be the next lot of work to do - watch this space !!

Today was baz's second visit to hospital, to cure the suspension and braking gremlins, so with new purchased rear drums, shoes, front pads, ball joints, bottom arm, handbrake cable, shock absorbers and gearbox mount, I stood a fighting chance of having a car at the end of the day that didnt resemble driving a bucket of jelly!
After removing the wheels, I found the main culprits to be six green aliens living amongst the suspension, which I hastily evicted!
Whilst the front springs were off it was decided that a coil should be taken out of the already lowered springs:devil: it sits so nice now, with the headlamps just a little higher than knee height!!
Anyway, with all the work done, i now have brakes - i nearly sent myself through the windscreen - YEY !!! And the new shock absorbers are doing their job nicely, he's so much nicer to drive.
Heres some pics of those damn trouble causing aliens and my shiny new drums!

Ooooooooooooooooo..........The clawwwwww.....noooooooo sorry the drummmmmmsss..(all in the alien voice from Toy story)

Look cool....kev

...the Panda is our master (also in alien voice).

Looking nice there Jenny. Think I'll be doing my brakes soon, prior to the April MOT (y)

Those are some very funky brakes and springs... You should put some part numbers up ;)

Jim

Blimey - i've had the discs and springs for about 14 years, the numbers are long gone:D, however, the springs were 'jamex', not sure if they'd still list them, and the brakes were tarox, again, they may still list them. I bought them through demon tweeks, I remember the sales man on the end of the phone laughing hysterically at the fact someone was tuning a panda for track use.

looking great, wish I had brakes:eek:
so is mine not the lowest any more? maybe I could get some fancy airbag suspension for that pimpy look:devil:
or not.

BTW how did those aliens stay so clean under there all that time:confused:
