Hi to all!

i've been reading this forum for a while, now i decided to try to write and contribute to the know-how to debel gremlins from my Panda!

I'll get to the fact: my is a 750-Young model, since 2-3 days i started to hear a "sibilling" noise from the left side of the motor, you open the hood, and the sound appears to come from the side with the alternator and belt & chains.

The sound is like pouring some sand inside a ball bearing and then make it spin, it's something like "ssshhhhhhhcccchhch" :D - absolutely not "loud" and not the type that sounds like a scream (take a chalk and draw a line on the blackboard: that's the "schhhh"-ish sound), but you can clearly hear in idle and either driving on the road; it's somewhere constant: in idle it is intermittent (few seconds on, few seconds off), while you drive you feel a costant "ssscchchhhchcchh".. i think it's better if i succed in recording it.

Some background, the motor runs smooth, no rattling, no backfire or bad noise, the distribution chain is really silent you cannot hear it, no banging, no "cough-ing" or "couff-ing" whatsoever; only this noise appeared 2-3 days ago.

Lastly, this summer i just changed the clutch by myself (and my Dad!) cause the old-one, when the motor became warm, felt like jelly-consistant and won't transmit power to the wheels (yes, the pedal regulation was already all-tight).

I hope someone could understant what i tried to describe and help me try to diagnose what's that sound about. :worship:

It seems like alternator bearing for me. Take off the alternator belt and try to run an engine without it for a while.

Alternator bearing or cambelt roller bearing.

But, Alan, it's probably OHV engine (Panda 750 Young, like Ice82's). So, no cambelt, only chain.

BTW: Camp0s, where are you from?

From ITaly! sorry, i didn't reported it back!

I'm curios about the chain, people said that my Panda has a really silent chain (as i said in the first post) but.. is the chain visible? i can see the belt running aroun the alternator, but where is the chain?

I think it's the alternator too, i managed to put some svitol as best as i could inside on the outer shaft and the sound somewhat stopped.. how can i unmount it? can someone give a good procedure? i need the car along the week for commuting to the train station, but if the work is reasonable i would like to try disassembling the unit to give a closer look, if possible :)

Thanks !

Another Pandista from Italy!:D

Procedure to unmount the alternator - loose the screws mounting it, take off the belt, then completely loose the screws and take off the alternator. I don't know how it's in Italy, but in Poland we can buy reconditioned alternators for exchange. You can leave old alternator and change it for reconditioned for about 80 euros.

BTW: what is "svitol"?
