Hi All

I have fitted a 1242 MPI engine into my Y10 and I am having a bit of an issue with the exhaust. The standard Punto 75 down pipe that I have complete with Lambda catches on the gearbox linkage.

The standard 999 fire front pipe has a nice bend in it that allows it to go around the gearbox linkage but has no Lambda probe. Otherwise I would just use that.

Is there a Panda downpipe that has a bend in it to get round the gear linkage and also has a Lambda?

Is it a cable or rob gearbox?

The Panda's went from rod, to cable when the CAT was introduced to stop this from happening so if you have a rod linkage box there could be a slight problem

Hmm, sound's like you might have a little problem then. I'm not sure if it's possible to convert it from Rod to Cable

Looks like I am making an exhaust then!!!

Jetex universal exhaust parts are looking like a good option. Should be under £100 for all the bits.

They also do a lambda boss to weld into a exhaust which you could use on the old panda exhaust if it fits your engine.

Thanks for that. Will look into converting the original as it would save a lot of messing about.

Old Panda exhause won't take a CAT though will it? This is the main cause of the problem I think.

As the car is pre 94 it does not require a cat for the MOT and the ecu uses a single pre cat lambda so does not require a cat for it to work correctly. As the exhaust will now also be less restrictive it'll also give a little more power.

Are you sure? Why did Fiat fit them both (CAT and Lambda) to mid 1993 onwards Panda's

Because they had to under eu regs ( and its from mid 92 ) but the rules had various exemptions and loop holes. Thats also why there was the switch from dizzy to ecu controled ignition in 94 ready for the newer regs due. Lada where the last to use carbs in the uk as lat as 94 for example.

If the car is before 92, which I think this y10 maybe, then in theory you could even fit carbs as the emision regs are even less strict.

Oh yes, my y10 is a 1986 D reg and will be avoiding using a CAT :slayer:

All she will have is a nice OMP back box
