General Rusty Horror, MOT time!

Hello everybody,

She failed ... and the worst part is the tester man knew where all the rusty spots were . Though he was a really nice guy who didnt mind me standing next to him doing the test.

Though most other things were ok, so my real question is when I do all the welding to her, what can I use to stop her rusting again? Is waxoil actually the best answer?

Pratical Classics said it was the worst they tested.

Underseal is the best I've been told. I think the previous owner of my Selecta loved it to much. They done whole of the chasis and half of the doors

Well some sort of protection is better than none, I got 5 litres of the stuff from a local accessory shop after a little welding on the sill and did all the notorious areas, still got tons left! Messy, sticky, horrible stuff but definitely worth it. Think there's an alternative to waxoyl called dinitrol which might be better.

After welding try and get a good coat(s) of zinc primer onto any bare metal. The zinc helps prevent rust forming plus the primer will give a good base for anything to stick to. Then put on underseal, and then squirt Waxoyl/ Dinitrol everywhere.
