After our chats about the sagging headliner I thought I'd do something about Sylvia's!



First, take the dirty filthy wonky headliner out!



Leaves it rather bare looking inside thou so you need to come up with a solution...



Then smack a hole in the roof!



Then get your cutter out and make the hole a 'little' bigger!



Order a Webastro Hollandia 400...



Then hope to god that you've cut it right....



Check the simple instructions that Webasto provide....



And offer your roof up...



and it looks like the 'Measure twice, cut once' rule worked!



Find somewhere to hide all the wiring...



And start bolting all the frame in to the roof structure



Fit the spoiler to the front of the roof...



Then take the remainder of the headlining and cut another great big hole in it and then lay it on some new headlining to match the inner colour of the new roof.



Get a little help to fit....



Then fit the motorized contol box to the front of the roof and bob's your uncle!




Many many thanks to Alister and Chris at CAR TRIM just outside Liverpool who worked all day and right up to 7.30 this evening on Sylvia so that I'd make the boat home tomorrow. If you fancy getting some thing like this done I can't recommend them enough as there was endless cups of tea and not once did they mind me taking photos or asking questions about what they were doing.

I've some video of the roof getting chopped off that I'll upload when I get back home and I'll get some shots of the roof now that it's totally finished as the light was fading as we got the last few bits and peices done.

hows the body flex?

The frame of the roof cartridge seems a hell of a lot stronger than that piddley bit of metal that connects the top of the B posts.... Like if you look in the second pic it was bending down with just hand pressure. The new roof is bolted all round to the outside and the inside in aluminum box section.

Think Fred was a bit down because of it too as he thought it would hurt Sylvia but she said that it only tickled.

Thank you! It's rather posh with its electric motor and auto pre set open and close and to top it off it's a lot quieter than the twin sunroof pandas as the material is made up of several layers and it's no were near as drafty cause of the spoiler at the front. There's just a tiny wee bit of extra wind noise but if you have the front dash vents open you'd not hear it over the noise they make. I think it even quietens the interior down compared to what it was like before cause of the extra padding...

Now if you'd have had that when you went across Death Valley, you could have got a sunburnt bonce to go with the heatstroke, lol.

I drove across from LA to Vegas in the Mustang, and had to stop and put the hood up (and the aircon on ) because it was just too hot in the sun..

I'm afraid the answer to that is no.... The roof and fitting cost eight times what I paid for Sylvia


Plug, nice one. Alan took a mustang in as our support car on the Death Valley excursion and only was able to put the roof down at night, lol! Anyway, it was only a V6 so it was the gay one anyway

But sure I'm all arse about face as I've put in a huge sunroof to go to the Arctic, lol!

I was a bit worried though when I scrolled down to the third picture and saw the hole in the roof Then I saw the fourth pic and realised what was happening

The sunroof looks almost identical to the Cinquecento Soleil roof. I think that was a Hollandia as well. Can you tell us how much the sunroof cost to buy (not fit)? Or maybe just remind me how much Sylvia costs and I'll work it out from there Quite fancy having one in my Uno SX seeing as it rather unusually didn't come with a sunroof from new.

We had the 4.0 V6 too.. no sports car, but it wasn't too sluggish. Unsurprisingly, the mainstream rental companies don't offer Shelby GT500 ragtops (or a '65 289, which was what I really wanted :devil.

The roof is even better in the flesh so to speak, a real professional job and makes Sylvia very cute

I think they cost somewhere between six and seven hundred. Fitted and the headlineing was just over eight.

, So in the event, and hopefully it won't happen, of her being written off will the nasty insurance company pay out for it?

No but I don't think that was a concern
