My '91 903cc doesn't really want to go in gear any more, it was always a bit funny in 5th, but mainly because the last owner didn't use it much I think! (was used to go down the shops and back in a town, under 30k when I bought it, and I'm the second owner!).

It doesn't crunch or grind, but it just doesn't want to go in! Could this be linkages or something?

Cheers people!

Some times it is dificult when I want to take the gear out to neutral. It's like that it doesn't want to go but with a small push it goes. No noises at all and happenning mostly when I want to go in a lower gear or when on a downhill road. Is this common on panda boxes or should I do something? I also have a ratling noise when at idle and neutral but when I push the cluch peddal it stops. One mechanic told me thins noise it's common in fiats and it is a small problem that I shoudn't worry about, but I don't want to be in a 4x4 gearbox searching situation, as it can be quite hard and exepensive.

So, advice from more experienced panda users is welcome!

thanks

The onlt time I had this problem in the 750L was trying to put it into 1st when moving. It didn't like it, but it was what was needed to get the car going when at low speeds. The acceleration in 2nd was rubbish unless already upto speed.

Sounds like the synchro re the neutral, and thrust bearing in the clutch re the pedal pushing (no point in replacing this till you need a new clutch and the mechanic is correct it's nothing to worry about).

Re the synchro Willie's wasn't brilliant before going to Istanbul and was no different when we returned, however make sure you regularly change the oil and clean the small metal particles from the sump plug and it will last years.

Check the Gearbox oil. Has it ever been changed? Lack of use in the gearbox doesn't usually cause problems. You could check linkages but sounds more internal and would also diagnose the synchro.

I have this same issue. 04 PANDA 1.2. I couldn't get 5th with out the box grinding, it then got worse and i couldn't get first or reverse as well. thought it was a clutch cable issue until i realised it has a hydraulic clutch. Strangely the problem seemed to have fixed it's self when i changed the break pads on the front. this fixed it for a few weeks until yesterday when it started again. today i took the front passenger side wheel off. took the pin out of the break caliper and pushed the piston back that is in the caliper (to do this you must take the cap off the break fluid reservoir) then put it all back together and it seems to have fixed it again, don't know for how long. if anyone could help with a longer term solution or explain why this seems to fix it temporarily I'd then be in a better position to spend some of my limited income on replacement parts to make it a permanent fix. TIA

1. Your in Classic Panda section.
2. Pressing in brake piston in does not help in your case, i would say it's more like jacking front corner of the car. Which indicatates air in clutch hydraulick system. Check the clutch fluid level, check for leaks and bleed it.

Hello everyone, trust all is well,
Please help me please,
I have a Fiat Uno Mia today in the morning went to start my car she started up well, but when i tried to put it in reverse she didn't want to go into reverse at all or any other gears,
I then after work was told it is the Slave Cylinder which i then went to buy and changed it Bleed it as well and bumped through clutch,
But still nothing at all the Master Cylinder is fine,

The Lever that the Slave Cylinder goes into is loose and doesn't move at all when i pump my clutch??

Please can anybody give me advice and point me in the correct direction please this is very urgent, thank you very much.

Hi, just had a quick look at your post in the Uno section - I think maybe when you were advised to ask in the Panda section that meant the newer model (2003-12). Classic Pandas have a cable linkage not hydraulic so not much of a handle on what the linkages look like. Much busier there too these days, more likely to hit someone with a useful angle on it.
