I have just some bought some Uno alloys for my Panda via E-Bay as they are supposed to be 98 PCD and the tyres on it are only 10mm wider than mine. However somebody who has seen the picture of the wheels said they weren't standard Uno wheels. They are 8 spokes with the spokes tapering towards the outer edge of the wheel, does this sound right to you? I'll find out myself on Friday, I was just wondering if I should be getting ready for a disappointment or not.

I fitted punto alloys (despite the seller saying they would not fir my panda), i doubt you'll have a problem with you're uno alloys :)

I got the wheels now. They are 165x70x13, there's no rubbing, but the bolts I have are for standard wheels, and I don't think they are big enough to keep the wheels on! I drove it to work this morning and there was a knocking noise. I think I can stop this by getting the right bolts, but I don't know which bolts to get, anyone help me on this one? Also the wheels say 'Punto OZ' on them, what does that mean exactly?

The knocking noise could be balance weights hitting the hand brake brake cable.

I would check for this immediately - look for scoring on the cables. If it cuts through the cable its an MOT failure.

Fix It Again Tony!
Would swap for X19, Montecarlo Spider or GT.i.e in average/poor condition! Scottish based would be nice.

Martiny10 - I checked that already. One of the wheels did have weights and they were knocking on the h/brake cable but I stowed the cable further into the wheel-arch and the knocking's changed. Towards the end of the journey this morning the noise was getting worse.

I checked the nuts when I stopped and I think they may have loosened but I'm not sure.

Last time I heard this noise, I checked all the wheels (they were the stock steels then) and I found I hadn't tightned the nuts on one of the wheels after I dropped it off the jack(!) but before I set off this morning I checked all the bolts were tight.

The problem with the old bolts that I am using is that they go quite far into the wheel and as a result there is about 5mm left to tighten them, so maybe I am not getting them tight enough?

GET LONGER BOLTS!! [:0]

the bolts supplied with standard panda wheels are not long enough for alloys, you could end up damaging the wheel hub thread like i did or worse, a wheel could fall off. You need to get 29mm long bolts to fit alloys on a panda.

Actually, I found this web-site: http://www.trackstore.co.uk/wheelfix.html I just need to check what size I need and then I can order them. I'll just have to go around on my steel rims until then.

I heard deamon tweeks do 29mm bolts, could be wrong. I got my bolts from a local garage and cut them to size in the end. You need at least 5 full turns of the bolt for it to be safe, really you should get 8 or 9. For some reason pandas need longer bolts for alloys than punto's for example [:(!] Don't get too long though or you will hear another 'interesting' noise as your bolts rip your drum brakes apart B) I fitted bolts that were not long enough and they totally threaded my rear wheel hub plate which cost me £40 to replace :( Fortunalty this is all it cost me...

Do the heads need to be a different size? Or do I just need longer bolts. Going from steels to alloys and back to steels has shown me how good alloys actually are in terms of handling.

Alloys don´t actually handle any better then same size steelies with same rubber, they´re just lighter. Why do you think you rarely see alloys with slicks at the track, chances are they´ll snap with high power levels. I´ve snapped a few Momo 5-spokes and i don´t use slicks:D.

I just meant the steering was lighter with the alloys, despite the fact there's more grip as I have quite a lot of rubber now compared with before. I was surprised how much harder it was to steer when stationary (not that you should).

The fronts have gone from 135/80/13 to 165/80/13 - not exactly low profiles. I'm not sure I could imagine a Panda with low profiles(!)

I´ve got 175 65R13s waiting to go in when i find suitable alloys(i had 127 alloys on but busted one on a drainhole that someone kindly stole the grille out of[}:)]) but mine has been lowered 40mm and going even further(i intended to run 15s but changed my mind):D

So you'll be running 175 wide on 13" wheels, and the Panda's been dropped 40mm?

Are you using spacers on the back? When I put the 165s on the wheels were rubbing on the hand-brake cables so I had use cable-ties to keep them out of the way.

I think that once I've sorted my wheels out I will probably go for a drop as well. Did you replace the whole suspension on just some of the components? And do you bottom out a lot (the road conditions around my way are very changeable so I could imagine that I would getting rubbing at the top of the wheel arches)

Have you got any photo's of your car?:D

I got 185/60/14 on mine, its harder to turn the wheel if i'm idel but no different on the move, the difference in grip in the roads it quite amazing.. I believe theres a guy on here with 15" fitted too! [:0]

Is your car lowered JF? Also, I'm pretty sure that the bolts that I have already are 29mm or longer! I was hoping to work out what the right bolts are before I go away this Friday so that I could order them before I go on holiday tomorrow, and then put the alloys on when I return. However I can't work out what bolts to get![xx(][8]

I also found the rubbing handbrake problem but i gently bent the cable back with a hammer and after a good lean applied primer and rustproof paint to the area. I did cut the bumpstops a little because i kept hitting them when driving normally over speed bumps(I got about 10 lumps on a straigh near my house and just drive like they aren´t there):D
