Hey guys!

i may need to get myself a timing chain for my panda. Just a reminder, year 1985, 965cc 4x4 ohv engine (like the 903cc panda). I assume that the timing chain for the 903 is the same as mine.

Does anyone know where I should go for one? Would it be best to go to fiat for it?

Cheers,

Si

Someone actually made a belt conversion for the 903cc once, Autorossa a 500 specialist near me sold his last kit about 3 or 4 years ago.

I remember 'red mist racing' on ebay having one of these on ebay about 6 months ago for about £50

01458 446517 between the hours 9.00am till 6.00pm or on 07918072724 any time.

Agree the chain is better, they last for ages anyway. Mines done over 70,000 now and is as quiet as a quiet mouse:)

Oh man, why is mine making noises at 54,000. I am so sure it shouldnt be. I might have to look into it further and check its not anything else. fuel pump, water pump, oil pump, dizzy are all in the same place and so could be either. I need a stethoscope! Will have a tinker around today i think.

I was thinking it might be the tensioner. But looking through the haynes manual, couldnt see one on the diagram. surely it must have one!

I have done a quick test that eliminates the water pump and alternator, by removing the belt. Noise remained. :(

I will replace the chain even if it is just the tensioner as the chain may have been damaged.

Si, there isn't a tensioner on your engine. All could be fine and the chain has just got a bit of a rattle. It is, however, best to check. Also check the spockets as it maybe those that are worn.

Aha! So I wasnt being blind when i couldnt find a tensioner. Hurah!!

yeah, my friend who knows his engines said that the sprockets might be worn. :( I hope not, are they easy to buy aswell?

I'll check some more bolts tomorrow aswell, been checking a few today, but it may be something simple like that :D fingers crossed.
Thanks,
Si
