Ey up, I've got a little '92 Panda CLX and i love it to pieces but...
Its becoming too much for me to look after, i'm no mechanic and theres little things that need doing and would cost me too much altogether, Radiator fan isnt working, theres an oil leak and some fatherless child tried to break into it and in the process buggered by door and i'd probably need a new one from a scrap yard.

So if theres is anyone who is selling a decent working panda cheap i'd be very interested, i'm only going to be in the country for another 6 months so i just one that will work from the outset with out any major problems.

or better still if theres anyone out there who collects pandas and fancies taking it off my hands (part exchange???)

its a 92 CLX 73000 miles, full MOT (exp may 2005) even got original alloy wheels, sun roof, new exhaust fitted last month, its had new break pads and calipers last summer, hand break cable. the only problems are the things i've outlines above.

Hi, Sorry to hear about your problems with the CLX. None of the problems you're having with it sound too bad. As you've spent so much recently why risk having to spend it again on a car you don't know ?
Radiator fan is probably sender unit...very cheap, or you can easily overide it. Oil leak ? How bad is it ? will it last the required 6 months? Is the sump rotted ?...a new one is around £50.
As for the door, What's the damage ?...If it's just the lock it's five minutes work and very cheap.
Where abouts in Bradford are you ? I'm in Haworth and work in the Manningham area.

Regards,

I think i was just in a bad mood last night and getting negative and grumpy about my wee car.
I've fixed the door, had to bend the window frame back and pop the panels back out again to get rid of the whopping dint in the doot!
My sump is new (fitted september 2003) think i'll just buy some sillicone gasket sealant and squirt it round the sump.

so how would i go about replacing a sender unit? or over riding it?
I take GGB in bradford would sell them, i've had alsorts from there over the past year!
I live in Thackley by the way, just up the road from shipley

Ah Hah !! So your sump is new, eh ? They are terrible pressings and 'glued in' with silicone instead of having 'proper' gaskets. It' a real art to get them to seal properly. Take it back to where you had it fitted and get it re-done. If you fitted it yourself, refit using a lot more silicone than you think right. But...be very careful not to drop it inside the sump as it's brilliant at blocking scavenger pumps !

Sender units are available over the counter at any supplier; even Halfords. They simple screw into your radiator near the fan. As to bipassing the sender....to run the fan permanently, remove the junction plug from the radiator sender unit and insert a heavy guage, insulated wire into the two holes in the feed plug. You will have to remove this wire each time you park up and it is not recommended in winter. On one of our off-roaders we ran wires back to a flick-switch on the dash to turn the fan on when we thought it needed it...very easy job to do.
Any problems that you can't handle with your Fiat, call Betacar in Cullingworth...they know everything !

I tried taking it back to the place I had it done, and they tried convincing me it wasn't comming from the sump, the buggers, I could see it dribbing out the side!

rather than having to unplug the conncections each time i park, wouldnt it be easier to remove fuse 3?
I like the idea of the switch, sounds an easy enough job to do.

NO...DON'T DO IT...PLEASE...DO NOT REMOVE FUSE 3.![:0]
You lovely car will boil itself to death my friend.

The dashboard-mounted switch is wonderful if your temperature guage is in good order and you remember to look at it.
Simply unplug the connector from the sender on the radiator and run a h/d wire from each terminal back to a h/d switch on the dash. Easy. Best to place the switch in a dominant position...and illuminate it. Just in case !

thanks for the advice!
I got a new switch this morning, but havent fitted it yet, so just bridged the connections and the fan is funning smoothly!
ahhh... its so nice to know that your engine isnt about to overheat!

thanks for your help, I've got a wire with a switch on the end just incase the fan switch wont work.
all i've got worry about now is having my head gasket replaced!
fourtunatly my firends dad is going to do it cheap for me :)
