Hi , need advice. Have a 1989 panda bella 903cc and the carburettor has gone kaput. can anyone help ? have had an email with an offer of a carb for a 999cc fire engine for a 4x4 panda but I don't know if this would be compatible or not

Your engine is not a fire unit so I don't think the 4x4 panda one would be compatible(n)

I think you need one off this list:

Weber 32 ICEV 61/250 (the one I believe your car is fitted with)

Weber 32 ICEV 28/250 or 50/251

Solex C 32 DISA/7 or 11

cheers Damon

hey! thanks for replies- I was told carburettor at fault. car wouldnt start after sluggish/stalling for a couple days. RAC man said it was gunged up and needed cleaning out and putting back in again. A mechanic friend of friend looked at car, said he did this and that car still wouldnt start. said he would fit new carb etc for 250 quid with no guarantees that car would start;hence my dilemma. I thought if I could get a used part that perhaps I could keep possible escalating costs down. have sent out numerous emails to breakers yards etc to no avail. Don't want my panda to become extinct!

 £250. It's a very easy thing to fit and you occasionaly get brand new old stock carbs come on ebay fir less than £20....

Send a PM to Co-driver as he may have a spare....

 sorry,am new to this . Not long been online. What do you mean send a pm to co driver??? will check ebay x

Co.Driver is a member on here. "PM" means "Private Message", look at the top right hand corner of the Fiat Forum page and you'll see :

As for carburettors, try these places:

http://www.carburetters.co.uk/

http://www.dellorto.co.uk/

You may also be able to buy a service kit (new gaskets/ diaphragms/ needle jet etc.) from these places and even Fiat were still selling kits for the 32TLF carburettor back in 2003 (I bought one for mine).

And there has to be some useable carbs still in scrapyards if you look hard enough.

But, I'm not sure if the blame lies with the carburettor (unless your mechanic friend has taken it apart and messed it up...) It might be something as simple as the car needing a service, or even just a new set of contact breakers. A blocked air filter can cause similar symptoms to those that you described. Try giving it a full service first to eliminate the obvious before condeming the carburettor.

Good luck! (y)

well, you may be right about it just needing a service. had a look at the carb myself ,it has not been removed from the car at all ! friend of a friend told a little porkie methinks :( A friend ( a real one) has offered to tow bella to a local recommended mechanic so I will leave it with him and perhaps a full service and checking the things you mentioned will get her started ( not to mention a good clean, the engine is well grubby!! :yuck: good thing is, although she has sat outside for the last 3 weeks, she is still turning over so I am hopeful to get her back on the road. thanks for advice - we panda people have to stick together !!!

Hmmm, i dont know if this is a good idea but the 32 DATR twin auto choke carb off my engine should fit yours. (965cc 4x4 panda). Would it need to be re jetted for the 903 though? Also, going to be hard to find these cheap / second hand these days.

Si

well another forumite offered me a carb from a 4x4 then when I told him my car was 903cc he said his one, a 999cc would not be compatible . I may be able to source one from my ex-mechanic as he is breaking a panda at the mo and reckons his carb may fit. but, like I said, I may not need a new one anyway. when I first broke down the rac man reckoned it just needed taking out and cleaning, I thought the mechanic I saw had done this for me but he didn't !! I am getting her towed to another bloke this week as one of our other panda friends said bella may just need a service so thats the route I am going to take. Thanks for the offer :worship: but need to see mechanic before I can say yes or no ! x

I expect that the one off the 999cc engine 4x4 wouldnt fit as you've got a differnent engine series. Mine is a prehistoric 4x4 :D

Just a thought if you fancied getting a bit more power! (and less fuel consumption :( ).

Hope all goes well with bella!
Cheers
Si!

Would i be right to assume it looks a bit like this?

EDIT: except without the K&N airfilter fitted

cheers guys , I am getting towed to a mechanic at 1.30 today and I hope I will have some answers in a couple days. Thanks for all your help, I was actually considering getting rid of her until I found this website, now I have renewed pride in the old girl ! :)

 ZOIKS !!! I have a shopping list of parts needed for Bella as long as your arm ,and guess what ?? It ain't the damn carburettor !!!! :D You have to laugh or else you'd go doolalley . I have a chum who works for a garage and he is going to try and get me the following... timing chain & gears;1 large and 1 small, core plugs x2, engine mountings x3,plugs x4,points & condenser and engine oil & filter. I just want her back on the road and had decided I would spend the money needed to do so- she will become a classic in 2014!!!

Latest news on Bella's plight - all parts needed have come in and been dropped off to the mechanic tonight - estimated cost for parts was around £300,but I am absolutely delighted to say that the cost inc.vat was only £217 :D at last, something goes right !!! Watch this space , hopefully she will be out of Panda hospital very soon :D !!!

That's really good to hear. We like stories and people like this on here.

The 'Ive had enough and I'm going to sell it to the first person doing the mongol rally' sorta gets on our collective tits thou, lol

Hope it all goes well!(y)
