Hey, my alternator has decided to pack up and so im looking to either recon my current one or buy a new one. Its been on the car since new so its 22 years old and done 50 000 miles. Is this about what you would expect for the lifetime of a set of alternator brushes? And if so, is there anything else i need to replace on it? The commutators look ok, and its making no odd noises from the bearings. Just not charging the bally battery!
Cheers for any help!

Si

EDIT: Does anyone know how much brush sets are, or if getting a new alternator all together how much it would cost? Possibly want an upgraded one. 65A would be great! They are different to the fire engine alternators aswell...checked it against one from a punto at least which is fire.

Mine died a while back, think some sand got stuck in it after parking on a beach car park. Not cool. Mine uses the same as a Cinq Sporting and I ended up getting a new one for ~£70. I later found out I could get it reconditioned for about £40.

Ah cool, i'll look into it. If I could get mine reconed for £40 that would be sweet. (y) Where would that be done though?
Also, just a quick question, yours would be the fire engine, does your alternator have 3 mounts or just 2? Just wondering if the punto has the same one as yours.

Thanks for your helps!
