General Anouncing the 2009 Fiat Forum Panda Adventure!

Hi all!

I'll ask polish pandafans, but tell me about an exact day you will be in Warsaw. And where do you want to rest?

Sutjeska

John's just planned a route!

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&s...l=62.431074,10.371094&spn=43.432823,157.5&z=3

And this one is called 'Coming Out For a Cold One' Belfast 2 Belfast Driving
6,416 mi – about 5 days 13 hours on Google Maps

:D

Jim

*shuffles in like the ghost of christmas past* :)

I Just thought I would gently remind you that you need to sleep as well :). And remember the fuel stop times and the odd delay at a couple of borders added a fair bit of time last time. that and waiting and loading and then unloading ferries etc.

Just a few quick numbers throw up:

Total Distance 6500 miles
Average Fuel consumption 35 mpg
Tank size 5.6 Gallons
Tank Range 194 Miles
Fuel Stops required 33.4
Average Time per fuel stop 40 Minutes
Total Fuel stop time 22.3 hours

Then... Consider speed & Time
Average speed 45 mph (based on average constant speed. parked up waiting and stuck in traffic etc.. kills off your motorway average)
Total trip distance (driving) 144.44 hours
or 6.02 24 hr Days

Basic total time without sleep or pause for pictures etc. 166.73hours or about7 Days.

I would say double your time expectations so you don't kill yourself.

Hi Rob, Nice to hear from you again!:)

Yeah, it's ok. I know the google maps time is just constant driving so we're allowing the 2 weeks either side of Easter to do it (well from about the 8th till the 24th of April)

Would of had more planning done but John (my co driver) and I had to do cook-a-long with Gordon on Friday there and well lets just say that there wasn't much time to plan in between putting he fire out

Next planning meeting is Wednesday so I'll pin stuff down then and hear more about the BBC. John's been talking to BBC NI about getting a couple of handi cams and sending two poofs in a panda to the pole (or something like that)

I've "off planet" for a while :) Just thought I would look in and see how the plot was progressing for this little jaunt.

Nearer the time, if you can rustle up a sim card to put into it to handle the data feed for live streaming, I have one or two live feed GPS tracking units. If you want to take one with you it would put an added element of interest into it for your viewers. failing that they can be set to report back every xx hours so keeping tabs on you would be easy then And we would all know when you were abducted by vikings :)

I also still have the radio's I bought for the Istanbul run so if you want to use them again, not a problem.

Lots of Radissons there! Did you get a deal?

Laerdal Tunnel - That must be about half an hour of tunnel. V wanted to have a drive through it, but somehow it didn't appeal that much to me.

That's an awful lot of driving each day. I presume you're going to skip Trollstiggen at that rate.

I spent far too long last night playing with the route finder when I should have been revising for my exams which are next week.

No deal yet - but I hope to be working on it soon. Here's hoping!

Can't say much at the minute but here's a tease...

Method
As time is short and they depart very soon, the suggestion for the filming of this adventure is to provide them with two cameras, on which they will be trained how to capture interviews between themselves and others on the way, undertake video diaries and how to take actuality, scenic and travelling shots of the trip.
In addition, one or two mini-cameras will be p[permanently installed in their car to take footage of the highs and lows, possible disputes and disasters and the enjoyment they experience while travelling – obviously one would hope the passengers will eventually forget about them and although they will be brought back into their consciousness when they have to change tapes they will be asked and trusted not to “erase” those bits they might prefer to leave out. In conversation with them, they expressed that they understand what makes for “good television”.

It's not a done deal so I'm not expecting to get the worlds most travelled 100 pound car on telly just yet. Like, anyone remember the 5th Gear Fiasco?

Jim

Looks like thats not going to happen... It was a fun couple of weeks talking to producers but such is life

Anyway, We've winterized Sylvia so now it's Fred's turn...
