Technical How to fit a 16v Fire engine in a Panda

Nice guide Damon. Says most of the important points, simply.

The punto box part should be expanded, as you suggest, when there is better info on it. Myself and Arran are finding out that there are more than a couple of custom parts required in reality. I would still recommend anyone doing this project on a whim or for a bit of fun to use the standard Panda box. The chances of you breaking the box are very small unless it is already on the way out or you tune the motor significantly. It isn't built with any more gusto than the Punto box in reality. A friend has re-built both style boxes completely and upon inspection the shafts and bearings aren't any better duty in the punto boxes. This is my opinion anyhow.

ye the box was a ticky one.
custom stuff ermm....

both gearbox mounts.
i had to cut up and weld back together the punto gear rod / link.
re make one of the gearbox levers longer
make my own clutch cable stop
drive shafts need to be 15mm shorter (cinq sporting ones) (very tricky one !!)

cant think of anything else i had to make specifically for the gearbox.

One question...
To fit 1242 16V engine with Panda Fire gearbox what exactly you need from Punto 16V...just clutch and rest from Panda?
Regards
J

Yes, use the Punto 1242 16v clutch, the rest of the gearbox bits can all be from the Panda.

The Punto 75 1242 8v with a panda fire box is what I am going to be running in my Y10. Gearbox arrived yesterday so just needs cleaned up and bolted together.

As far as I understand these gearboxes are good for over 100bhp and there is no messing about with driveshafts etc lake there would be if you put a punto gearbox in.

Hi
Has anybody got ECU pinout (scheme) from that engine
1242ccm 16V (from first Puntos)?

Hi, I can't find the wiring diagrams I used at the moment.:(
I just went to my local library and used thier photocopier to copy the diagrams from a haynes or porter Punto manual. From your picture of the engine it looks like you have the engine loom and the wires you need to fit this into a panda are mentioned in the first post in this thread.

Is there a specific pin you are looking for? I do remember they are laid out differently to the standard Panda ECU.

I try to collect all information (diagrams) before I start do anything, so at the moment I don't need any particular pin. I'll try to find some in my library:)
Yes, There is all loom in the engine, but I've got some more wires and I'm not sure about them...
Can you recognize anything on pictures(with numbers)?
Jakub
BTW
Do I have to change something with Panda engine mount or I can just fit it to 16V engine (looks like different)?

Thanks....I'm going just to fit all wires for engine, I'm not going to fit Puntos clocks, but I've got all wires even from inside car and I was thinking if it's something important:)...There is also two connectors from inside car (the same picture no 6&7) which look like ignition connectors. I though that it could be easy way to connect 12V+ somewhere there...(they are red(big)white(big) brown, red and orange)

jangcy, you are doing the same thing I did at your stage (y) I like to know what everything does too.

item 3 is a relay block and you should keep that.
item 4 goes to the charcole canister via a relay (mounted next to your pandas map sensor I believe)
The punto engine has its map sensor built into the throttle body.

items 5,6 and 7 are all dash connctors.

The connector in picture 6 is the one that I have mentioned in the 1st post in the list of wires to connect to the panda. I removed all the binding from that part of the loom and cut out the wires I did not need.

Out of number 7, the 3 bank (red red and orange) the center red will be constant 12V +ve, and the other red will be the starter motor, and the Orange will be ignition feed (sparks ECU). It also looks like it will fit straight into the Panda's igniton barrel (y)

The other ignition cable will be for things like headlight, wipers, and all key controled electrics (y)

Had another look. Number 9 looks like crank shaft sensor, and 8/the fuses are probably for...Was going to say lambda pre-heater, but should be a relay also. Wait a min, will just check in punto section, cos read about them the other day I think :p

EDIT: Here's link to what fuses may be; https://www.fiatforum.com/punto-technical/161609-punto-fuses.html

Thank you, you are great!!:)
BTW
I've just found some ECU scheme (looks like 1.2 16V but from Lancia Y10...on Punto forum said that it's also Punto)

That's the one, the 18FD(y) (for historical note the lancia Y is based on the punto and is not related to the Y10 which is panda based)

Sorry I didn't see that before but I'll continue here to keep forum tidy
I've got your SPI scheme...I needed it before to fit rev counter (still not working:(
and as Panda-sport said it could be some differents...
My 16V engine was from P reg Punto and there was no immobiliser (so I hope there shouldn't be problem to start engine:rolleyes:

You just unbolt the 16v mount and bolt on the Panda one :D
That great :)
