just thought would admire my beast yesterday head on and i looked at the wheels and the tracking is way way wayyy out. this would explain how i have had to be driving with the stearing wheel to the right a bit. ermmm HELP going to devon on sunday is it hard to fix the tracking my dad says he has the kit to do it with from his out MGb, is it hard or not??? chears

Not too difficult with the correct spanner and some grips to stop the rod turning.

Check you haven't got any worn out suspension joints, as that will mess up the tracking anyway.

If it's out because of kerbing ;) it should adjust back, unless you've really bent something :(

A tyre and exhaust place will usually check for free, but charge for adjustment.... So..
You could adjust it to what you think is correct and get a free check if you have the neck to do it[8D]

Free tracking check[:0][:0][?] UK is really a <font face="Lucida Console"><font size="6">wonderful</font id="size6"></font id="Lucida Console">place:D

Depends.

If the tracking significantly is out you get any or all of the following:
premature tyre wear on an inside or outside edge.
tendancy for the steering to pull one way.
wooly, less precise steering, and a tendancy to skid earlier under heavy braking (as the front wheels aren't both pointing the same way).

However, you can have the wheel off centre, but tracking near correct - if the wrong side was adjusted to correct a tracking error.
If it's done properly they should clamp the steering wheel straight ahead, then adjust either or both track-rod ends.

If it goes straight when you take your hands off the wheel and the tyres are wearing OK, you could take the steering wheel off and reposition it.. BUT if there's a big mis-match in track-rod length you may get a tyre fouling inside the wheel arch on full lock... which it will be doing now anyway.... and it won't track up exactly either.

After having replaced the front tyres becose they were completely worn on the inner side, the tyre-man discovered the left wheel to be a little bit forward than its normal positionB)...the cause was the left antiroll bar bent!He disassembled it and after a good hammering it seemed to take back its right shape.
