Not all is well with my 4x4... it has failed the mot on both carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions being excessive. What would have caused these to fail.

Can i adjust the mixture to sort both..

Last thing which probiably isnt related to this but when i got the car back home, i may of been doing some J flicks and the engine cut out!!!!! fault finding lead me to the dizzy which has allowed its bob weights to fall off and destroy all the dizzy internals. Have now put an old coil and dizzy on from a 2wd and it starts better, and revs better?

could the dodgy dizzy had an effect on the emissions..

Many thanks for any ideas or views shared..

Hi
my uno failed MOT on emmisions 2 years ago. i put a bottle of petrol treatment into the tank, then disconnected the fan at the radiator, as keeping the engine hot is the key to passing that test, a hot engine will produce less emissions. I cant remember the name of the stuff, but it is commonly availible.

I basically had the engine red hot when he re-did the emmisions test. it passed with flying colours then.

Cheers Cinnead, will go out and try some treatment juice. My lump runs cold and takes an age to warm up if sat static. Will get myself a new thermostate at the same time..

Apparently a tank of high octane fuel can help although im not sure it works on carbed cars :s

Make sure it is'nt symptomatic of any larger issues... IE it could be burning oil...
