hello, having just got my panda in a great working order i have now noticed oil leaking from the centre of the nearside rear wheel. its not the breaks as i had them checked. and i now have the added problem of an overtightened nut which has snapped! i have sealed around the washer with silicon and the nut is being held in place by some dodgy stuffing of masking tape inside the plastic sisley cap. does anyone know what to do and is it easily repairable? thanks, john:cry:

Sorry John but having a bit of difficulty with the description of both problems.

If the leak is mid way on the axle there is a breather on top for diff oil as it expands. When warm it can seep if the diff has been overfilled. If at the wheel itself could be an oil seal where the diff fluid is escaping I'll check the parts on eper (later) as I've never done that job or know it's layout.

As for the overtightened snapped nut, What's that on?

:) sound like the half shaft oil seal to me that it hidden behind the backplate that holds the rear wheel cylinder and shoes etc. I changed the shaft with the oil seal attached to the shaft. is it the wheel stud?

Hello John!
As I understand, the leaking is in the centre of the axle and oil is leaking on the wheel. It can be oil seal 25x47x7, for example "Corteco 12010867". I had the same problem last summer and bought two seals, becouse they are difficult to find in Poland. And one is waiting :) .

Greetings

i got up at 5am armed with a rag, some wd40 some pincers and a new bolt, jacked up the car, took off the wheel (needlessly but good fun) sprayed the centre of the wheel hub, tickled out the broken off bit and gave it a good clean. replaced the new bolt with great care and the leak seems to have slowed down. is it a big job to replace the oil seal? thanks for all your advice. john. viva wd40!
