cam Belt broke on my daughters Palio 1.6, I replaced valves, all running perfect.2yrs down the line cam belt breaks again, replaced valves and tensioner, but now like a loud tappet noise coming from engine. Engine starts easy and revs perfect, lots of power, but after 2 Km it loses power, and battles to start, leave it to cool down, and same thing, starts easy, lots of power, goes 2Km`s and loses power, please help me, thanks.

Welcome at FiatForum Lionelll...!!

Any codes stored in the ECU?
And you probably know that the cambelt change interval on the 1,6-16V Fiat engine is 60.000km OR three years, whatever comes first, no matter what the handbook says....???

thanks for the welcome, where is the ECU please

You should see a dealer or workshop specialized in Italian cars, they can read the ECU for you.
If it's a model before about 2002, the 3 pin socket is in the engine bay, just above the brake booster ( on LHD cars..).
Newer models have an 16 pin OBD socket near the steering colum inside the car, near the fuses.

I'm just wondering if a piston /skirt is cracked..?

Have you tried a compression test? Though having said that, a compression test wouldn't give any indication about a cracked skirt, only if the piston/rings itself was damaged.
