I have a 2004, 1.6 16v Palio Weekend with what sounds like a misfire, I have checked the plugs and leads all looks good. The engine has a horrible rattle noise at about 2000rpm, I am worried it could be a valve or worse. Is there any easy way to check what the problem could be, I would rather not drive it the way it sounds. I am from South Africa. Thanks

I just went to a local mechanic and he suggested I replace the spark plug leads, he said it sounded like there was an electrical fault, not mechanical as the misfire does not get worse when removing each plug wire.

The nearest Fiat dealer is 140km away, so I went to a mechanic who advertises that he can read and correct ECU faults, I went to him this afternoon and he was unable to find the port to plug the diagnostic machine in, where is the ECU port to check diagnostics.

You can buy a 3 pin to 16 pin OBD cable from ebay and scan the ECU yourself ,
i bought them through ebay.in and they are cheap as heck here in INDIA ,
for the cable i paid Rs 450 INR and the Bluetooth ELM327 is around Rs 500 INR which is good value for me , i scan the car my self using Multiecuscan (MES)
(free version for now) and it has worked well for me ,
The OBD port should be very close to the ECU , i uploaded a pic of a 1.6 palio engine bay , thats not my car but it does have the ECU 3 pin connector location ,

let us know what ur mech finds out ,
peace !
