When driving home from our UK vacation, I noticed a lot more inlet/ engine noise during accelerating than before, but, hey, the car is almost 13 years old and has done almost 200.000km, so I considered it to be "normal".
After a close inspection today I discovered the real reason: two nice cracks in the rubber hose between the aircleaner and the engine.....
I don't know for how long this has been like this, but it can't be long, as I inspect the engine very often.
Anyway, fuel consumption was VERY low during our holiday trips in good old Britain, maybe because the engine could suck in more air via the cracks...??
So I ordered a new original hose (expensive..!!) today, hope I can fit it next week.

OK, the new hose is on....!!
Engine noise is a lot less now, it turned out that there were two cracks, one about 1/4 and the other one more than half way round.....!!
Engine runs better now, less vibration at idle, and that's a good thing!
So now I have to sort out the leaking front exhaust pipe....it never stops

Hi,
I'm new to the forum but have "lurked" from time to time.

I spotted this problem on my 2000 w/e quite some time back. The dealer said it was not a problem, but I think they don't like the Palio very much.

I've never really noticed any difference in performance, but I don't really know when this started.

Great site by the way.

Dave

Excuse me...no problem...??
It will ruin your engine for sure!
Air is no longer cleaned by the airfilter, so a lot of dirt will enter the engine !!
Second, the mixture will be lean, so the engine runs hotter= bad,
Last but not least, engine noise will be annoying loud...!!
Renew this important hose as soon as possible, cost about 80-100 euro's, nothing compare to a worn engine, if you ask me...!!

Btw, welcome here...!!

Maybe my cracks aren't as big as yours:confused:. It was some time ago, but I don't do many km.
When the rain stops I'll lift the bonnet and reaquaint myself with the engine.

Bon weekend,

Dave

I refitted the exhaust, using lots of assembly kit, and, apart from a very small, hardly noticeable leak, it is quiet again.

But, as I said before, it never ends, now I noticed the balancing weight of one of the wheels has gone.....!
Meaning I have to go back to the tyre fitter to have it re- balanced.....!!
