Technical FIAT PETRA (SIENA) 1.6 Petrol maintaince advise

we have 3m car care shops who mainly polish body, interiors. I am sure they would have something specific for headlights

Will call them tomorrow itself and inquire

Sockets seems to be ok. Bulbs dont seem to be glowing less then normal

OK, good luck.
Finding the right bulb can be a pain in the ****.
The factory Xenon units in my 2004 Alfa GT looked OK, even MOT was no problem.
Still I wasn't happy with them at all, roads were dark, corners invisible etc.
I was told Xenon bulbs never fail.
Still I bought an expensive, new set ( Philips original), and there you go....now I can see where I'm going in the dark....!

hi peter
Will go step by step
First will get the lens polished and cleaned and check the results
Second, will try and get good bulbs. Maybe from usa and 4 bulbs wont be bulky to carry for any passengee

there is ebay india
But sellers in general cant be trusted for such items

There are lot of fakes sold throughout the country and most of it makes way to ebay as well

I will try to search for philips ecovision when I visited philips authorized dealer/distributor

Tried polishing the lens surface with toothpaste

It did improve things but not by much. Also did align the headlights. Problem is alignment is not working on the right side.

Infact one guy , who installed new headlight assembly in his palio says alignment is not working in the brand new units as well. So I am not going to risk buying new as they are quiet costly

Will again try polishing with a proper polish and a MF cloth and see what happens. Waiting for rains gods to calm down. Its been raining here since last 10 to 12 days

Car was having some heating issues which was being discussed here

https://www.fiatforum.com/palio/357583-heating-problems.html?p=3550628

As told by peter, I did a proper check and I think fan is functioning properly wrt coming on when engine reaches a certain temperature

I am not sure if it's just a calibration issues or not but consistently the engine just goes a shade above half and the fan kicks in at speed 1, brings the temperature down to shade below half. All this is with aircon off

When the car goes to the garage I will get the coolant flow checked

Only problem remains is the fan stays on and that too at second speed once the aircon is used. Even after switching off the aircon the fan keeps on working at second speed continuously for a long long time

Also the end muffler seems to have developed a leak. I may have to replace it. Not sure if I will get a fiat oe but there are a few people I know who work on only car exhausts and can make an exact replica of original muffler.

Is it advisable to get a SS muffler which will obviously cost quiet more then the regular material

How long does the fan keep on turning after you shut down the engine, and at what outside temps?
It is a good habit to open the hood when parking after driving in hot weather and after shutting of the engine.
Due to all the insulation material under the hood, the engine heat is trapped in the engine bay...

A stainless steel exhaust is only advisable if you plan to keep the car for a long time.

hi peter
Fan stays on for maybe 10 to 15 seconds after then engine is killed
We have peak summers between march to june and month of october
Peak temperature would be 38 to 40 degrees C
I wont be able to keep the car for more then 2 years even if i want to. Spare prices are hitting the roof

Do i need to do anything about the fan staying on continuously at high speed once the aircon is switched on? (Fan stays on and that too at high speed even after aircon switched off)

The dreaded heating issues are back and with full force :(

Its the coldest part of the year for us (never is as cold as it is now)

With ac off running car for about 40 mins temperature shoots up above 75 percent.
Stays there for a while, drops back a little and then shoots back again

Once the ac is on as the high speed fan comes on full time it drops to less then half
which is normal with ac
Funny part is that once the ac is switched on, even if its switched off high speed fan stays on permanently. Switches off after driving for another 40 to 50 mins in city (stop and go traffic)
This behaviour confuses me
First of all, I have to check if fan is going to high speed to bring engine temperature down
After that’s known, what can be the likely culprit here?
Thermostat, water pump or something else?

Thanks Peter
This does not look like a fan clutch issue else with ac on fan would not go to high speed?
I had got changed the whole cast iron part where the thermostat is housed. Not sure if that also includes the sensor
But its not as easy as to replace the O2 sensor, so I wll have to take the car to the workshop

Will update you in a few days time

In the end, the ECU decides at what speed the fan should operate, but it depends on those two sensors, and there maybe another sensor in the A/C system, but I'm not certain ...
Any faults stored in the ECU?
Have it read to be sure.

Yes for sure its going on the scanner
Thats why taking it to a proper workshop

will keep you posted

Thanks again

Finally, could go for a drive for some kms

Popped up the bonnet once the overheating started.

Without AC on, the fan is not running at all, not even at the first speed

I think similar problem i have faced before also but it was years back.
That time the workshop diagnosed it as a relay issue.

So it can be relay gone bad?

Or a thermostat or sensor issue

I am not sure if with a bad relay the fan spins when AC is switched on

Some pointers will help me as if its a relay issue, i think can be rectified easily and dont need to go to the big workshop which is very far away
